Collegiate Examination and Predictors of Success in Linear Algebra Students

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of a collegiate linear algebra examination from a public university in Mexico in the 2018-2 and 2019-1 school cycles to a total of 1209 first semester students. This research includes evaluating the test and identifying successful predictors in students. The collegiate test is aligned to the curriculum, it is criterial and offers multiple choice. The analysis of the test consists of the calculation of difficulty indexes, discrimination rates, and correlation coefficients, as well as cognitive activity, content classification, initial and final registration of each reagent. The results show that it is a reliable test with satisfactory discrimination power, and that among the reagents predictors of student success is the resolution of operations with complex numbers in their rectangular shape, the matrix product, the Cramer rule, and the space generated by vectors.
