Abstract
We present a comparison of mathematical modeling trends between Latin-America and the rest of the world through the analysis of 561 publications, including articles from major international journals in educational research and book chapters. The analysis focused on the modeling perspectives, the educational content, and the targeted population of the revisited documents. The results of the analysis show global tendencies and allow the identification of characteristics specific to the Latin-American publications that contrast with the publications from the rest of the world; however, this study also gives an account of local tendencies that do not extend to the whole region.
