Continuous Publication of Articles

BAR is now on a new direction of its publishing process: continuous publication of articles. Once more, we are pioneers in Brazil in the management field innovating in the way we are delivering our publication to BAR's readers. Continuous publication is a Scielo program that offers journals the possibility to publish articles in a definitive version as they get ready for publication, individually. This way, we will present BAR's articles as soon as they finish the publishing process, without having to wait for a certain numbers of papers to complete an edition, like we used to do. In the age of information technology and information overload one must be fast in publishing without losing quality. From now on, BAR's articles will be delivery for readers faster than before, disseminating knowledge generated from our authors all over the world, to an audience avid for innovation in the field of Administration.

It is important to reinforce that the quality of our manuscripts are still priority number one. Changing the way we publish papers, will have no impact in BAR's quality. To make sure authors and readers understand the continuous publication process we present information taken from Scielo as follow:

The SciELO methodology identifies and structures the articles in the continuous publication modality according to the following standards:

  1. Articles are identified and published individually in their final version after the publishing process;

  2. Each article is viewed as an independent object and receives a unique identification in the journal collection and in the SciELO collection;

  3. Every article is identified by an article number which is formed by the letter 'e' followed by a sequential number that uniquely identifies the article in the journal collection.

  4. In the formats in which the articles are paged as in PDF, the home page is number 1 and the final page corresponds to the number of article pages.

  5. The article number replaces paging as a means of identification of the article on the issues and volumes of the journal collection

The main objective of the continuous publication of articles is to accelerate the scientific communication process and thereby contribute to its immediate accessibility for reading and citation.

Besides the immediate availability in the SciELO interface, this goal is achieved through the presence of articles in international indexes as soon as possible. SciELO follow the policies and procedures of bibliographic indexes for sending journal articles with continuous publication. When a journal adopts the continuous publication mode, the volume, number and session identification system may remain unchanged. The only modification is the numbering of the articles. When assembling a journal number for publication, articles can be joined in any order regardless of the articles' number (Scielo, 2015).

I believe this new path will make the publishing process more dynamic and closer to the current demands of the academic world. Needless to say that the role of Associate Editors, Action Editors, reviewers and authors are still of extreme relevance in the publishing process. Authors must present article that are innovative, that follow ethical principles of publication and also, they must be open for improvement suggestions that comes from peers involved in the paper analysis process. Associate Editors and Action Editors are gatekeepers responsible for filtering articles with potential to continue in the revision process before being send to reviewers. Reviewers are key in the quality of the journal as a whole. Reviewers contributions are immensurable. The volunteer work done by all those involved in the review process is priceless. For the continuous publication of articles to work as we would like it to be, we will need more than never the time, effort and knowledge of our Editors and Reviewers.

As Editor-in-Chief I am always looking for an article that can became a landmark in its focal area. As researchers we need to keep reading, writing and innovating with a target in quality, rather than in quantity. Even though pressure to publish is huge, we cannot lose sight what it means to be a professor and a scientist. Our responsibility towards our pupils and the scientific community is so precious to be lost by greediness.

BAR has been over the years a reference in our national scenario for its quality. We are a reputable journal with a fast process of publication relatively to other Brazilian top journals (A status in CAPES Qualis system). More than never, with the adoption of the new Scielo Program of continuous publication, BAR is a periodical that can help sound academic research have a faster way to publish their research results. We are always open for articles that will make the difference in every scholar life and strengths BAR's position in the international competitive arena. This is a challenge for the Brazilian researchers, but also for the international ones that will choose BAR as Journal to publish articles.

Another important information to be shared is that BAR is now accepting articles in all areas of administration, including Public Administration and Accounting. We are positioning the Journal as a generic one in the field of management.

We would like to thank Prof. Jose Mauro Hernandez for his contribution during the years he contributed as Associate Editor. Prof. Hernandez is no longer part of our editorial team. At the same time, we welcome Prof. Valter Afonso Vieira that will take office as Associate Editor.

Let's keep reading! The second number of BAR in 2016 presents five articles as follow:

The first article (Do the Board of Directors Composition and the Board Interlocking Influence on Performance?) by Delci Grapégia Dal Vesco and Ilse Maria Beuren, analyzes the influence of composition of the Board of Directors and their social relations (board interlocking) on performance of Brazilian companies.

The second article (The Brazilian Unified National Health System: Proposal of a Cost-effectiveness Evaluation Model) by Lilian Ribeiro de Oliveira and Claudia Souza Passador, proposes a model of cost-effectiveness to compare IDSUS performance against total revenues achieved in Homogeneous Group 2, consisting of 94 municipalities and analysed using data from IDSUS and the System Information of the Public Budget for Health Care

The third article (Credit Rating Change and Capital Structure in Latin America) by Dany Rogers, Wesley Mendes-da-Silva and Pablo Rogers, analyzes the impact of imminent reclassification of credit rating on the decision-making regarding capital structure of non-financial corporations listed in Latin America.

The fourth article (Private Equity and Venture Capital Funds: What Drives the Demand and Supply?) by Ricardo dos Santos Dias and Marcelo Alvaro da Silva Macedo, indicates that investments are adversely affected by the depth of the capital market: the PE/VC funds seek an exit strategy which the stock market offers through IPOs (Initial Public Offering).

The fifth article (Regional Cluster, Innovation and Export Performance: An Empirical Study) by Alexandre Luis Prim, Mohamed Amal and Luciano Carvalho, reveals that the agglomeration economies of a regional cluster have been found determinant factors of the export performance, as well as a significant source to generate innovations by firms
