CANON(S), GLOBALIZATION AND ART HISTORIOGRAPHY

ABSTRACT

The text turns to the notion of canon, in order to problematize the historiographical narrative of art and the theoretical-methodological impasses in face of the existence and consolidation of other histories/stories on the margins or incorporated into this narrative. When approaching the discussion at an international level, with the West as the articulator of such questioning, its objective is to confront these points with the study of the historiography of Art in Brazil. At first, the term “canon” is submitted to a review, to then relate it to the “Global Art History” and, finally, to raise some points to be considered in a Brazil perspective.
