When our Acta Ortopédica Brasileira journal project was started over 18 years ago, it was unimaginable, even in the most optimistic of scenarios, that it would reach the level it is at today. Its recognition by several of the most important scientific indexers in the world reflects the high quality of the scientific production of Brazilian Orthopedics, product of the work of all the members of the Editorial Board, as well as of the investigators who collaborated over the course of these 18 years and entrusted the disclosure of its production to Acta Ortopédica Brasileira.

I make a point of expressing special gratitude to the various directorates of the Regional Branch of São Paulo of SBOT (Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology), which placed its trust in our management, and to Laboratório Aché, our partner in the development of this project, which has contributed so significantly to our specialty.

By means of this message, I say farewell to my activities of editor-in-chief of our journal, with immense satisfaction: that of a mission accomplished and of transferring my duties to my coworker and friend Olavo Pires de Camargo, who I am sure will develop this activity with complete competence, taking Acta Ortopédica on to ever higher levels.

I wish to thank all those involved in this project for their continuous collaboration throughout these 18 years.

Tarcisio E. P. Barros Filho
