Aspectos neurológicos da cisticercose

1 - Cysticercosis is relatively frequent among us and was noticed in 45 of the 12,361 patients of the Neurologic Clinic of the University of São Paulo Medical School. 2 - The encephalic and subcutaneous lodgings seem to be the most frequent. Among the 45 recorded case?, there were 39 probable cerebral localizations, 15 of them being confirmed by subsidiary examinations; 6 cases were lodged in the subcutaneous tissues, 5 of which had signs of encephalic injury. Eye (orbit) localizations was seen only once. 3 - The most common clinic pictures of encephalic lodging were the convulsive and tumoral syndromes. From the 45 recorded cases, 23 (51,1%) were of the convulsive type and 22 (48,8%) of the tumoral type. 4 - The presence of a convulsive, tumoral or psychic syndrome in patients with subcutaneous nodules and the habit of eating poorly cooked pork, are strongly in favor of probable encephalic cysticercosis. 5 - The laboratory tests which oftener prove helpful in bringing conclusive evidence for the diagnosis, are the deviation of complement for cysticercosis bests in the cerebrospinal fluid and blood. The blood eosinophilia and eosinophilorhachia are complementary elements. X Ray films are not always contributory. 6 - The epileptiform syndrome in adults, without loss of conscience, being more of the Bravais-Jacksonian type, very often stems from cysticercosis. 7 - Oleoresin of Aspidium and deep radiotherapy seem to be good in the treatment of some cases. In spite of giving satisfactory results Sodium Albucid still is in the experimental stage. Some cases of isolated parasitic cysts, lodged in excisable regions, are liable of surgical treatment
