AIRBORNE FUNGI ATLARANJAL BEACH, PELOTAS, RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRAZIL

ABSTRACT

The growing interest in allergenic microorganisms and the search for new environmental indicators is sparking interest in research of airborne fungi in Brazil, since the frequency and the diversity of the these fungi can be associated with the environmental pollution. For collection of airborne fungi, Petri dishes containing medium of culture potato-dextrose-agar (PDA), were exposedat 6 representative points on Laranjal beach, Pelotas, RS. The colonies of morphologic different aspects culturedand identified the morphologically, the following fungi genera beingidentified: Alternaria, Arthrinium, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Curvularia, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Gliocladium, Helminthosporium, Nigrospora, Paecilomyces, Penicillium, Pestalotiopsis, Phialomyces, Rhizopus, Scytalidium, Streptomyces, Thysanophora, as well nonesporulated forms. There is aconsiderable diversity of airborne fungi, totaling 18 genera, many of which pose the potential to cause mycoses and allergies in humans, being larger during the summer and with variations among the genera for each season.
