EVALUATION OF RESISTANCE OF SOYBEAN VARIETIES TO DAMPING-OFF CAUSED BY COLLETOTRICHUM TRUNCATUM

ABSTRACT

Anthracnose causes high damages in soybean yield, mainly in warm and wet regions. This study was aimed to evaluate the resistance of various soybean varieties to Colletotrichum truncatum. To obtain the inoculum, the isolate was seeded in Petri dishes with PDA culture medium. Seeds of 19 soybean varieties remained in contact with the fungus for 16 and 40 hours in the dishes. Then they were planted in pots. The evaluations were made through the count of seedlings 15 days after emergence. The results showed that the contact period of 40 hours was too drastic to evaluate the reaction of the varieties. In the case of contact of seeds with the pathogen for 16 hours, it was possible to distinguish 4 groups, the most resistant soybean varieties being MSOY 8001, Conquista, MSOY 8400, Engopa and Vencedora; while CD 207, Embrapa 48 and BRS 183 were the most susceptible ones.
