Trauma, desire and writing in Grande Sertão: Veredas

Abstract:

Focusing on the novel “Grande Sertão: Veredas”, the article articulates the trauma and desire notions to the figure of Diadorim, thinking about fiction as a response to the emergence of desire in its relationship with a traumatic core and refractory to the symbolic. Trauma is also addressed in its relationship with analytical technique, its particular mode of operation with time (emphasizing the Freudian use of the expression Nachtraglichkeit) and in its relation to the subversion of the linguistic code taken to the extreme by Rosa, who signs a work recognized throughout the world for the physiognomy of a unique language.

Keywords:
trauma; literature; psychoanalysis; João Guimarães Rosa
