Urban plannig in Curitiba: technic knowledge, citzen's classification and city sharing

The present work investigates the Preliminary Urbanism Plan (Plano Preliminar de Urbanismo - PPU, 1965), source of the Directory Plan that has transformed Curitiba's urban space in the 1970's. The analysis focuses on the technical discourse and its procedure of classifying the city's space and population. The technical knowledge was strongly articulated to strategies of unequal division of space and differentiated orientation of urban policies. This articulation can be acknowledged as we analyze the technical arguments mobilized in the PPU in order to define the placement of the cities "structural axes", having the effect of attributing supplementary value to spaces already valorized and to build a stock of selective expansion in the city central area.
