The "Japanese Model" (San Mitsu) in combating Covid 19: what about migrants?

Abstract:

This article discusses the paradoxes and limits of the "Japanese model" in combating coronavirus. First, this model endorsed the myth of "racial and cultural homogeneity" and excluded the needs of migrants residing in the country. In contrast, we show the myth as a political ideal dissonant with the current migration scenario in Japanese society. Then, from an ethnographic study, we analyze the case of Brazilian migrants who live in Japan in the current pandemic context.
