GYMNASTICS RHYTHMIC' YOUTH SPORT: TRADITIONAL APPROACH AND MASTERY MOTIVATIONAL CLIMATE APPROACH

ABSTRACT

The present study investigated the influence of youth programs of Rhythmic Gymnastics, traditional and the with a mastery climate on the fundamental motor skills (FMS) and Gymnastics Rhythmic' specialized skills (GRSS). Participants, 39 girls (5 to 10 year-old), were assessed using the TGMD2 and a protocol for the GRSS; and, organized in two interventions' groups, Traditional (TG) and Mastery (MG). The intervention programs were conducted during 3 months/ 2 times per week emphasizing the FMS and sport specific skills. Results indicated: (1) positive and significant changes in the FMS for children in the MG; (2) children from GM e GT showed similar performance on the GRSS in the post intervention; (3) positive correlations between FMS and SGRMS and between age and GRSS. The mastery climate was effective in promote children' motor proficiency in fundamental motor skills and sport related skills.
