It deals with the representations and traditional practices of Alto Rio Negro Region - AM, related to natality and to the whole process of procreation, pregnancy and parturition. It approaches the professional experiences on an indigene cultural context, that represented a double challenge, it means, the passage of the academic learning to the nursing professional practice, dealing with patients that had indigene origin in the majority, with conceptions about health/disease different from ours. The study try to rescue the traditional medical knowing (indigene).
