Welcoming proposal for parents of dysphonic children: case report

ABSTRACT

Purpose:

reporting the importance of a welcoming procedure for parents of dysphonic children, members of a group of speech therapy.

Methods:

it is a qualitative case report and microgenetic analysis method of speech therapy sessions video recordings with a group of parents of dysphonic children.

Results:

the analyses were described from three categories: the first on the parents' knowledge about the voice, children learning about the voice in the therapy process and results of the therapeutic process. The second category involved the vocal habits and voice uses in everyday life. And the third on the parental concern associated with respiratory diseases.

Conclusion:

the proposal of groups with parents of dysphonic children is a valid therapeutic possibility, because it showed as a constructive work for all members. In addition, the welcoming of parents of dysphonic children is essential since they directly interfere in the therapeutic management.
