Formulation of competitive strategies through analysis of scenarios for civil construction

The purpose of this research was to formulate competitive strategies through simulated analysis of scenarios for the civil construction industry. The data for this explanatory study was collected by means of qualitative assessment questionnaires applied to construction company representatives. The non-probabilistic sampling technique performed by convenience was adopted in this study. The scenario simulation model by Rojo (2006) was the method used. Through the development of simulation scenarios, it was possible to enable construction companies to prepare for possible future changes in advance, reducing organizational uncertainty. It was possible to conclude that the simulation tool used is appropriate to assist the civil construction sector strategically; simulation scenarios can be an alternative to be used by both the government and the companies themselves. Rojo's model differs from other routes of strategic diagnosis because it seeks variables directly with the industry players. The sector defined in the study resulted in the formatting of the strategic planning in a logical non-linear way for the company in question, extending the analysis of variables along the timeline. Such procedure, characteristic of this model, collaborates with the precision of the decision-making process, with the necessary cognitive analysis of possible ways to formulate competitive strategy.
