A history of Ou isto ou aquilo, by Cecília Meireles: first edition, Girolle book Publisher, 1964

Abstract

The article’s objective is to build a history of Ou isto ou aquilo first edition, by Cecília Meireles, published by Giroflé book publisher in 1964, and inquire about its edition’s conditions of production and circulation, quite different from the others editions released over 55 years. In a historical nature research, we explored unpublished documents, in the effort to build a history of this edition in the light, mainly, of Roger Chartier’s contributions. Ou isto ou aquilo (1964) is the result of the innovative editorial work of a multidisciplinary team of professionals under Sidónio Muralha coordination, with illustrations by Maria Bonomi. A coherent project with ideas defended by Cecília: to offer a high quality literary and cultural education to children.
