This work proposes reflections on the signification of Physical Education in the school environment and on the didactic action directed to the meeting and confronting of knowledge. For such, we will base ourselves on teaching situations that compose our experience as Physical Education teachers and also on a theoretical frame of reference from the Human Sciences. The students arrive in class with some amount of knowledge concerning the elements of body culture; the teacher, through her pedagogical action, may challenge such knowledge, intending to lead the students to identify and understand the studied subjects, in a systematized way. In such a didactic process, signification is a key element to be considered for a mediation that glimpses the revision of ideas and values.
