Novelties in Vanilla Mill. (Orchidaceae) to the South Amazonian border, Mato Grosso State, Brazil

ABSTRACT

During the study of the genus Vanilla Mill. in the north of the state of Mato Grosso, some specimens of Vanilla bahiana, V. cribbiana, and V. cristatocallosa were collected, corresponding to new records of geographical distribution for the state. It is presented a taxonomic treatment with descriptions, notes on taxonomic, ecologic and geographic issues, as well as illustrations of species. The analysis of the samples allowed us to reestablish V. cristatocallosa as an autonomous taxon which was previously considered a synonym of V. cristagalli. Additionally, V. aspericaulis, a recently described species, is synonymized with V. cristatocallosa.
