Crossed histories: a prosopography of the founders of Brasiliense Review (São Paulo, 1955)

ABSTRACT

Through a prosopographic approach, this pa per studies the group of forty-five participants of the Manifesto of the Founders of Brasiliense Review, published in São Paulo, between 1955 and 1964. Problematising the issue of intellec tual who would be supporting the project de veloped by Caio Prado Junior and Elias Chaves Neto, the crossing of biographies shows that certain forms of political, cultural and profes sional socialization allow not frame it as an ex pert, but as a public intellectual, engaged in the extensive debate on the Brazilian moderniza tion of the mid-twentieth century.
