The Advancement of Neoliberalism and Brazilian Agrarian Reform

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the recent changes in agrarian policy since the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and the neoliberal influence on the agrarian spatial structure; with an emphasis on the main implications for peasants and rural peoples. The time frame of government policy is due to the fact that there are already consistent studies of periods of previous governments. A comparative analysis is carried out for the governments of Luiz Inácio da Silva, Dilma Rousseff and her successor Michel Temer and the two years of government of the extreme right that gathered around Jair Bolsonaro.
