UNIVERSITY IN QUESTION: COMMUNITY INSTITUTIONS AND THE FORMATIVE DIMENSION OF MANAGEMENT

ABSTRACT

As a theoretical essay, this article proposes a conversation grounded on the philosophy of education, aiming to think about the educational dimension of management in community universities and its specificities as a way of action committed to both the production of knowledge and the creation of other possibilities of life. In order to do so, we have dialogued with the classic concept of university, based on a diagnosis of the present marked by neoliberal rationality, which reduces human education to a business lexicon focused on quickly applicable performance. Based on that, we have proposed a reflection on the need to think about access to higher education in an unequal country like ours, education as a common good, and life in a more collective and community dimension. We understand that management, in this case, goes beyond an administrative-bureaucratic function and includes the intellectual dimension to consider the ethical, aesthetic, and political effects of its actions in the regions where it operates and also in more global ways.
