Between the “yard” and the “paper”. An analysis of curricular proposals for the training of physical education teachers, Argentina (1970-1989)

ABSTRACT

Throughout the second half of the 20th century, in Argentina, different actors registered in Physical Education teacher training institutions tried to promote different discourses and practices to legitimize the discipline in different social spheres. In these processes, dialogues were established with diverse scientific knowledge, constituting what the actors of Physical Education called “disciplinary traditions”, also promoting unequal enrollment in the higher education system. This article seeks to analyze such processes. We will delve into the processes of configuration of knowledge and practices that built the identity of physical education teachers in the 1970s and 1980s. For this, we will analyze primary and secondary sources, including the study plans and administrative records of various training institutions. In each of the case, we will attend to the plans of its construction. The tour will show that, in the period considered, the identity productions of physical education teachers start thinking about a relationship of need and tension between research and teaching.
