The society of spectacle and the reconfiguration of the pedagogical authority

There is a new categorical imperative in the contemporary society of spectacle: the condition of the self-preservation turning into advertising oneself. In the middle of the univerzalization of screens and cameras, which are present in almost every social relationship, the case of the Rio Branco School, where 107 pupils were suspended because they protested against the installation of cameras in the classrooms, stands out. Based on this case, this article aims at critically reflecting on the new configurations of meaning of the concept of pedagogical authority in a society in which all the relationships tend to be sensationalized. It is in this society that both teacher and pupil's images become audiovisual fetishes, which are eternalized through the social networks, a fact that promotes the propagation of the so-called atemporal panopticon.
