Teenagers and the reading of literature by choice

Abstract:

This study investigates the literary behavior of teenagers who seek literature by choice, that is beyond the readings required by school. By analyzing questionnaires answered by 92 students with ages ranging from 10 to 17, in the city of Londrina, Paraná, we established a profile of the volunteer readers. We also observed the differences between the reading interests of the youth and those of the school curriculum. Based on these observations, we concluded our work bringing some practical ideas on how to peacefully attune the conflict between the differences of interests, using as starting point the work of Jobim (2009), amongst others. We highlight that these concepts may also apply to other contexts both within and outside Brazil.
