Heterogender: "An useful category of analysis"

The uncritical use of the gender category contributes to the repetition of a binary and naturalized division of the sexes. Grounded in procreation, heterosexuality appears as a political institution that defines social roles and status, creating bodies attached to masculine and feminine gender. This is how fictive identities are built around biological sex, forging sexuality as the essence of being. The very employing of the category of "heterogender" points toward this construction and opens the space for manifold perspectives to analyze the construction of the social.

heterogender; naturalization; sexuality; identity
