Pedagogical interchange and educational strategies in the travelings of a brazilian educator to the south regions of Brazil and to Río de la Plata (1923-1927)

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this article is to comprehend the pedagogical interchange and the constitution of the educational strategies from Nestor dos Santos Lima’s travel experience. In the year of 1923, the educator from the state of Rio Grande do Norte was assigned by the state government to observe educational organizations in the localities belonging to the south of the country: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo. By his own decision, he then changed the itinerary, broadening his destination routes and moving towards the region of the Río de la Plata, where he visited primary institutions, teacher’s schools and professional schools in Argentina and Uruguay. After his return, he wrote a report in which he shared the initiatives he found would be beneficial and feasible in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. To comprehend this movement of exchanging knowledge, practices and the making of education after the crossing, we chose to work with the transnational perspective in the area of History of Education, dialoguing with authors such as Vidal (2020), Roldán Vera & Fuchs (2021), besides studies that address educational experiences of traveling subjects in their inquiring and historiographical possibilities, such as the writings of Mignot & Gondra (2007) and Cardoso & Moraes (2014). Regarding the theoretical-methodological aspect, we dedicated ourselves not only to knowing the experiences and experimentations, but also to the criteria to elaborate the actions which he endeavored in the Rio Grande do Norte’s educational scene after his return to Brazilian soil.
