Prehistoric panorama of archaeological research in the state of Paraíba

Abstract

This article discusses prehistoric archaeological research in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, presenting these investigations through a political/administrative divide in contemporary mesoregions and suggesting the emergence of precaution and conservation through duty related to the sharing and synthesis of data on this heritage. The objective is to systematize this research to serve as a parameter for future studies. Literature was surveyed in various databases and document collections including archaeological laboratories, geographic information systems, and public agencies. The findings indicate that studies in the mesoregions are located within different archaeological panoramas because they reflect specific historical processes and social occupations. This context does not differ significantly from Brazil’s Northeast, as archaeological research is concentrated and demarcated in specific areas due to the high density of archaeological sites.
