Electrooculogram of the movement: I - Methods and registrations

ABSTRACT

Electo-oculography (EOG) applied to obtain information regarding ocular movements is undoubtedly a very useful method for the strabologist.

Data presented in this work (first part) were obtained by means of 200 tracings which allowed a detailed study of the major components, both normal and pathological, considered essential to perform EOG with the greatest efficiency.

Our aim is to describe an accurate and systematic methodology, based on electrode placement and programmed sensorial order, employing 40-40 degrees, 40-0-40 degrees and 20-20 degrees for horizontal movements and 40-40 degrees and 20-20 degrees for pursuit movements. Normal findings observed with both eyes uncovered and with one eye occluded are described. Pathological cases are left for the second part of this work.
