Watersheds are the biogeophysical units that are fundamental for the integrated management and conservation of water resources. This integrated management depends upon the evaluation, interpretation and scientific undestanding of all the components a watershed: physical, biological, chemical, social and economic.
Comparative studies of watersheds located at different latitudes and geomorphological settings, economic, social realities are essential for the development of planning strategies for management and long term public policies.
This special number is a contribution towards these objectives. The papers present an important scientific contribution that undoubtedly will be extremely useful for future studies and development of new regional perspectives.
