Editorial Note

This special volume on the ecological dynamics of Xingu River presents the baseline information of this river ecosystem prior to the construction of the Belo Monte Power Plant Complex.

It is intended to be useful information for future studies on an ecosystem subjected to environmental stress.

Association of the Brazilian Journal of Biology acknowledges finantial support of Norte Energia for the edition of this special volume.
