EDITORS' NOTE

The Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria (RBP) reaches its last issue of the year 2012. We would like to thank all of the reviewers, national and international, who devoted themselves to the important task of critically evaluating the wide range of scientific articles submitted to this journal. Certainly, the quality of opinions has increased substantially and helped the RBP to become even more distinguished and internationally acknowledged. It is worth noting that most opinions are from outside the national scene. Our thanks must also be extended to all authors and research groups who submitted articles to the RBP throughout the year. Thanks for the confidence!

RBP's impact factor, as determined by the Institute of Scientific Information - ISI Web of Knowledge for the year 2011, was 1.198. This factor reflects the number of citations from articles published in 2009 and 2010 in the year 2011 divided by the number of articles published by RBP in 2009 and 2010. It is important to observe that despite the decline of the impact factor in relation to the previous year (1.593), the number of self-citations (citations by RBP of itself) has decreased each year, and the citation number of items published on RBP by other journals has increased. In the assessment conducted in 2009, RBP had a self-citation rate of 28%. In 2010, this rate was 18%, and in 2011, it was only 11%. By contrast, RBP received 557 citations from other journals in 2009, 760 in 2010 and 763 in 2011. Among journals that cited studies published on RBP in 2011, we highlight prestigious international journals, such as Lancet, Neuropsychopharmacology and Schizophrenia Bulletin, among others. Thus, the reduction in the self-citation rate and the increase in citations by other journals seem to represent a greater convergence and visibility of RBP.

As has occurred in other psychiatry journals, such as the American Journal of Psychiatry ("Images in Psychiatry"), the Archives of General Psychiatry ("Art and Images in Psychiatry") and the British Journal of Psychiatry ("Psychiatry in Pictures"), as of 2013, RBP will have a new section titled "Psychiatry and the Arts". The purpose of this section will be to publish short, art-related texts on music, literature and painting that are of interest to psychiatry. This new section will present texts up to 500 words in addition to a painting or picture and a maximum of five references. A small taste of the new section can be appreciated in this edition (George Harrison's Inner Light).

We are confident that the increased visibility and internationalization of the scientific articles published in RBP is directly related to the appreciation and relentless pursuit of good quality articles and high-level reviews guided by high methodological accuracy.

We would also like to extend our warmest welcome to the new editors who become part of RBP's editorial board - Professor Jaime Eduardo Cecilio Hallak, Professor Marco Aurélio Silva Romano, and Professor Antonio Egidio Nardi. Welcome!

Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Professor Marcelo Pio Fleck who, after four years as Editor-in-Chief, is now leaving the editorial board of this journal. Fleck, thanks for all the hard work and professionalism with which you conducted the RBP!
