EDITORIAL

This issue of the Brazilian Journal of Education (Revista Brasileira de Educação - RBE) shows an important transition in its editorial project. From now on, the publication of articles will be continuous, rather than organized into printed volumes and specific issues as was done before. This change in RBE’s editorial process has been in discussion for the past six years and is the result of the dedicated work of their Editorial Board and the Boards of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Education (Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação - ANPEd).

In recent years, aiming to improve its Project, RBE has adopted an on-line bilingual publication model; significantly reduced the time between the submission, evaluation and publication of articles; opted for an open access policy for their dissemination and promotion; cared for the journal’s scope, prioritizing its social responsibility in disseminating knowledge resulting from high-quality research, as well as its national and international insertion within the scope of specialized publications.

It was found, however, that editing the journal in a printed format represented, for several reasons, an obstacle to the agility of the publication of approved articles. Thus, a digital single format was considered the best alternative to the current demands of the area, being an alternative that has already been adopted by renowned scientific journals in the fields of humanities and social sciences.

This first single edition of RBE will publish a total of 36 articles, being 12 for each month: October, November and December 2017, which will correspond, at the end of the year, to 40% more published articles when compared to previous editions. It is estimated that with a greater number of articles published each year, the relationship of the journal with the scientific production in the field of Education and with society in general will also expand.

In this sense, and aiming to provide even more visibility to the political and academic discussion on ANPEd’s agenda, this RBE issue brings three articles ordered by Boards of ANPEd to researchers who have been developing critical analyses and proposals that are pertinent to a better understanding of relevant themes emerging from the current Brazilian public policies scenario.

The expectation of the RBE Editorial Board regarding the continuous publication of articles exclusively through digital means is that this format will make its editions more dynamic, and that the contributions on writing, publishing, evaluation and reading of the journal will multiplying, broadening its horizons and promoting the new paths this publication wishes to trail.

We would also like to welcome the new members of our Editorial Board from June 2017 onwards, our colleagues Maria Alfredo Moreira (Universidade do Minho, Portugal) Luiz Fernandes Dourado (Universidade Federal de Goiás - UFG) and Salomão Antônio Mufarrej Hage (Universidade Federal do Pará - UFPA). We are grateful for the serious and supportive work carried out by our colleagues Marcelo Andrade (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro - PUC-RJ) and Marília Gouvea de Miranda (UFG), who reached the end of their terms as members of RBE’s Editorial Board.
