SUMMARY

A study was made at two localities on the uptake of nutrients by above ground parts of corn before flowering and seeds at harvest. At one of the localities the leaves accumulated larger quantities of N, P, S, Ca, and Fe than the stem and at the other locality N, Ca, S, Cu, and Mo.

In the above ground parts the average extraction at the two localities was: K > N > Cl > Ca > Mg > P > S > Fe > Mn > Zn > B > Cu > Mo and in the seeds: N>K>P>S> MG > Cl > Ca > Fe > Zn > Cu > Mn > B > Mo.

It was observed that the extraction of nitrogen by the seeds was greater than that applied to the soil as fertilizer which probably was due to the soil nitrogen release.
