A. S. Costa; Ana Maria B. Carvalho; Darcy M. Silva

SUMMARY

Observations carrini mil by the writers over a period of years indicate that the damage induced to various crops by leal-mining Diptera in the area of the Campinas has increased in late years. Bean, beet (red), chinese cabbage, cowpea, cucumber, lettuce, potato, squash, tomato, and turnip plantings were found severely damaged. Liriomysa strigata and Lirimysa sp. were tlie specie.s found in association with the attack here recorded.

It is pointed out that leaf miner flies might be instrumental in transmitting virus diseases that are easily passed mechanically. Also, the feeding punctures made by the leaf miner flies miight serve as portals of entry for fungi and bacteria.
