Classification of external diseases of the eye

RESUMO

Os autores apresentam uma "Classificação de Doenças Externas do Bulbo Ocular", que tem como objetivos: padronizar a linguagem utilizada, colaborar com o ensino dos residentes e estagiários, dinamizar o funcionamento do setor e facilitar a inter-comunicação e a realização de estudos multicêntricos em nosso meio. As afecções externas mais comumente encontradas na prática oftalmológica foram divididas em oito grupos principais: A - Anomalias congênitas; B - Distrofias; C - Dege-nerações; D - Ectasias; E - Infecções e Inflamações; F - Depósitos pigmentares; G - Tumores e lesões pré-neoplásicas; e H - Trauma e Complicações pós-operatórias. São discutidos os conceitos utilizados, critérios de subdivisão e referências utilizadas.

The authors present a "Classification of Externai Diseases of the Eye" aiming to standardize the language, to help with in the teaching of residents and fellows and to facilitate intercommunication and organization of multicentric studies. The most common externai diseases of the eye were divided in to eight groups: A - Congenital anomalies; B - Dystrophies; C - Degenerations; D - Ectatic diseases; E - Infections and ínflammations; F - Pigmentary deposits; G - Tumors preneoplastic lesions; and H - Trauma e Postoperative complications. The concepts, criteria of classification and references used are discussed.
