Surgically induced astigmatism after cataract extraction: nylon x poliester sutures

RESUMO

Foram analisados dois grupos de 20 pacientes com a finalidade de ser observada a evolução e a magnitude do astigmatismo induzido no pós-operatório da cirurgia da catarata suturada com fios de nylon ou poliéster. Tal comparação demonstrou que o astigmatismo induzido nos grupos nylon ou poliéster não diferiu estatisticamente durante o período estudado. O grupo nylon mostrou um decréscimo do astigmatismo induzido significantemente maior que o grupo poliéster no período entre 90 e 180 dias. Os fios estudados parecem induzir astigmatismos com evoluções distintas no pós-operatório.

SUMMARY

The surgically induced astigmatism was studied in two groups of 20 patients who underwent extracapsular cataract extraction. On one group (nylon group), nylon corneal sutures were employed. On another (poliester group), poliester corneal sutures were used. The comparison between two groups did not reveal statistic diference on the amount of the induced astigmatism. The decrease of surgically induced astigmatism on group nylon was statistically greater than poliester group at the 90-180 days postoperativelly. The sutures studied seem to induce similar amount of astigmatism, therefore, the decrease during the time seem to be diferent.
