History

The first issue of Trans/Form/Ação: Revista de Filosofia was published in 1974 by the Philosophy Department of the extinct Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Assis (Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Assis), which in 1976 became part of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Few years later the Department moved to the Campus of Marília. Since then, the greatest researchers from São Paulo, as well as other Brazilian and foreign philosophers associated to them published their interviews or articles on Trans/Form/Ação. In the beginning, the journal was associated to the creation of a Postgraduate Program in Philosophy and to an important philosophical event; the Philosophy and Theory of Human Sciences Journey (both from UNESP). Due to its role in fostering the study of academic philosophy by establishing a cosmopolitan pole and the importance of its first collaborators (Gilles Gaston Granger,Gérard Lebrun, Antônio Cândido de Mello e Souza, José Arthur Giannotti, among others) it acquired a remarkable presence in national and international philosophical scenario allowing the interlocution with great foreign intellectuals.

Mission

The main goal of Trans Form/Ação: Revista de Filosofia is to publish (both in electronic and printed format) texts of excellence in philosophy or of philosophical relevance and so socializing knowledge by promoting debates and discussions of ideas. The journal is mainly composed of articles, reviews, translations and interviews of professionals of relevant production in philosophy. All forms of publication obey the thematic, methodological and periodic variety, maintaining, with this, respect for the different tendencies of philosophical knowledge, as well as for the different orientations of thought.

Focus and Scope

The focus of Trans/Form/Ação: Revista de Filosofia is to publish research articles either on philosophy or on relevant topics involving a philosophical approach. This scope promotes debate and exchange of ideas and texts among researchers from Brazil and abroad.

Text Similarity Check

The submitted manuscripts undergo verification of similarity of texts and prevention of plagiarism (using the program Turnitin) in the stage of designating the submissions.

Peer Review:

The manuscript, whether in the form of an article, a translation of some philosophical text or a review of philosophical books, is submitted to the “double-blind” examination by at least two reviewers. The referees are, preferably, professors associated with national and international Philosophy Graduate Programs. Modifications and/or corrections suggested by the reviewers regarding the content and/or the wording (clarity of the text, grammar or new spelling rules) of the contributions are passed on to the respective authors, who will have a limited period of time to make the required alterations. The article, however, will be sent for evaluation only if it satisfies the originality and adequacy requirements set out above and the manuscript formatting model.

Quarterly.

Normative criteria for submission:

When submitting the paper, consider the criteria for following the evaluation phase:

1. The authors have the PhD/Doctor title (justify otherwise);

2. The manuscript does not contain references to the author(s);

3. The manuscript contains between five and eight thousand words (between 14 and 21 pages);

4. Carefully follow the Standard Template of the journal.

Evaluation Criteria:

(1) Formulation of the objective(s), the examination of the works, evaluation of the secondary bibliography, presentation of the arguments, presentation of the results.

(2) Philosophical relevance and originality.

The journal is usually sponsored by funding agencies such as CAPES, CNPq and FAPESP, as well as funds from Unesp, especially from the Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences (FFC-Unesp, Marília). It also receives support from the Editorial Laboratory (LE) of the FFC-Unesp, the Department of Philosophy and the Graduate Program in Philosophy at UNESP.

The Editor is a professor in the philosophy department and in the postgraduate program in philosophy at Unesp. His term of office is two years, and may be renewed.

The executive committee is composed of at least fifty percent of internal professors, belonging to the philosophy department or to the philosophy postgraduate program at Unesp, preferably former editors, in addition to external professors, national and foreign. Equal distribution is sought between the areas of philosophy, geographic and gender. The committee is responsible for administrative matters and for the journal's editorial policy.

The editorial board is composed of recognized national and foreign researchers. An equitable distribution is sought between the various areas of philosophy and some members of related areas, as well as gender, geographic and institutional, whether nationally or internationally. The criteria for choosing national members is based on their Lattes Curriculum, especially researchers with a CNPq/Category PQ-1 research productivity scholarship. For foreigners, the choice is made based on their curriculum, considering their production, impact factor and international reference. The editorial board has an advisory role and can be called upon to suggest decisions on opinions on material submitted in specific situations, make suggestions in the journal's editorial line, as well as suggest or organize thematic issues.

Every contribution submitted to the Journal undergoes, first, a preliminary evaluation by the Editors, which analyzes the adequacy of the works according to the Journal's editorial line, their adequacy to the scope, and aspects such as contribution and originality of the text. Submissions that have gone through the editorial verification process are forwarded to at least two/two ad hoc reviewers specialized in the subject, who will subsidize the editors. The review system is by Double Blind Review: the names of the reviewers will remain confidential, also omitting the names of the authors from the reviewers.

The criteria for evaluating the articles take into account the relevance of the topic, originality of the contribution in the thematic areas of the Journal, text clarity, adequacy of the bibliography, theoretical structure and development, methodology used, conclusions and contribution made to the knowledge of the area.

The opinions may result in three types of assessments: Defer; Defer with restrictions; Dismiss.

The publication of works is subject to compliance with the recommendations of the referees.

The evaluation is based on the Evaluation Form

Guiding questions for objective evaluation of the submission (indicate grades from 1  to 5 )

• Originality (Does it contain new elements and get to justify the publication?)
• Affinity (Does it have adherence to the journal's content?)
• Grammatical Correction (Is it well written grammatically?)
• Abstract (Describe clearly and precisely the content of the text, indicate its objectives, theme, problem, thesis and way of approaching the problem?)
• Textual structure (Does it present a well-elaborated introduction, development, and conclusion?)
• Argumentative structure (Does it present good reasons, has cohesion and coherence, for the defense of the thesis or treatment of the problem?)

The objective requirements quantitatively indicate the opinion of the appraiser/a. However, it is essential, in order to fulfill the didactic and dialogic role of the opinion, that the evaluator also builds a descriptive opinion of the submission. In this sense, they have complete freedom to explain their assessment and decision, commenting on the items listed above, as well as other points they deem relevant to the improvement of the work evaluated.

1) Originality: TRANS/FORM/AÇÃO publishes original articles in the form of regular essays, translations, reviews and interviews. The writer who publishes material in this journal must wait at least four numbers (two years) before submitting another manuscript.

2) Theme: The themes dealt with must pertain to the field of philosophy or present a philosophical approach to the topic treated. They may derive from research work or be informative in nature. Translations must be of classic philosophical texts. Reviews will only be accepted for books that have been in publication for two years or less.

3) General information: Manuscripts submitted for publication must be sent online through the OJS platform, already in the form of “blind evaluation” (without data identifying the author), via the journal's homepage, in Word version (.doc, docx ) or Rich Text Format (.rtf). Papers written in Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and English are accepted. Papers already in the “blind evaluation” format will be directed to a proper evaluator, who will usually be the editor or eventually a member of the Editorial Board, in order to check the relevance of their possible publication in Trans/Form/Ação, as well as the adequacy of its format, to be later forwarded to the referees.

4) Authorship: The data and concepts issued in the works, as well as the accuracy of the bibliographic references, are the sole responsibility of the authors. The files must necessarily be sent through the journal's homepage. All identification and author data will be obtained via registration in the system, and not by text. Incorrected filling of forms, absence of data and/or any problems in your registration, may invalidate your submission. It is important to emphasize that the journal does not have a tradition of accepting works from students, generally denying texts sent by non-doctors, however, it reserves the right of exception if it deems it reasonable.

Papers that do not meet the required standards above will be rejected or returned to the authors indicating the adaptations to be made.

The journal does not request article processing charge (APC).
