Basic information

 

Transinformação (e-ISSN 2318-0889) is a specialized journal, edited by the Library Science College, Center of Social and Applied Human Sciences from the Catholic University of Campinas. Founded in 1989, the journal has adopted the continuous publication modality since 2019, focusing on articles that contribute to the study and development of Information Science, Library Science, Archivology, Museology, and related areas, being open to contributions from the national and international scientific community.

Transinformação is adept at Open Access and all its content is available and protected under the Creative Commons license (CC-BY). In addition, it does not charge fees for the submission, evaluation, or publication of articles.

Scope and Policy

 

The license adopted by the journal to publish its articles is CC-BY.

TransInformação publishes articles that contribute to the study and development of Information Science, Library Science, Archivology, Museology, and related areas in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

In line with the Open Science movement, the publication supports the use of preprint servers and accepts manuscripts previously deposited on trusted servers such as SciELO Preprints: https://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/user/register

The Journal supports the use of repositories for deposits aimed at the preservation, dissemination, and reuse of data such as SciELO Data: https://data.scielo.org/.

Submission

All articles must be submitted electronically through the page <http://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/rn-scielo>.

At the time of submission, the following must be attached:

(1) The article (complete file in Word format, including cover page, abstract – in Portuguese and English, text, references, and illustrations);

(2) The illustrations (in a separate and editable file, in the formats accepted by the journal, in the following programs: Excel, GraphPrism, SPSS 22, Corel Draw Suite X7 and Word; in the following extensions: .cdr, .pzf, .spv, .jpg, .jpeg, .xls, .xlsx, .doc, .docx, .vsdx, .vst.);

(3) Documentation required by the journal (duly signed by all authors).

Manuscripts may be rejected without detailed comments after initial analysis, carried out by at least two editors of the Journal, if the articles are considered inadequate or of insufficient scientific priority for publication in the Journal.

Documents

Authors are required to submit the following attached documentation together with the article:

1) Cover letter of the article for submission. [Model]

In cases where it applies:

4) Declaration of Translation Certificate;

5) Approval copy of the Research Ethics Committee's Assessment;

6) Document attesting permission for the use of illustrations (tables, photos, graphs, and others).

All persons listed as authors must sign the documents. Photos or collages of signatures will not be accepted, only scanned or electronic signatures are allowed, in order to avoid any type of fraud. All documentation must be sent scanned and delivered in PDF format.

The submitted manuscript must follow the model article made available by the journal, as well as indicate the category and area to which it belongs, as follows:

Original: investigations based on empirical data using scientific methodologies aimed at disseminating unpublished results. Consists of distinct sections: introduction, method, results, discussion, and conclusion (Maximum limit of 5,000 words, they must be prepared in 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 11, and A4 size sheet).

Review (by invitation): critical synthesis of the topic of interest in the area, through the analysis and interpretation of the relevant bibliography, which contains a critical and comparative analysis of works in the area that discusses methodological scopes and limits. And, with that, they allow indicating perspectives of continuity of studies in that line of research. (Maximum limit of 6 thousand words, they must be prepared in 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 11, and A4 size sheet).

Essay (by invitation): reflection on a topic that gives rise to future research (Maximum limit of 5 thousand words, they must be prepared in 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 11, and A4 size sheet).

Communication: report of experience or academic research through work with an individual, group, community, or organization, which the dissemination can contribute to a better understanding of available information resources and to the solution of technical problems in the sector (Maximum limit of 5 thousand words, they must be prepared in 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 11, and A4 size sheet).

Thematic section (by invitation): section intended for the publication of coordinated articles, by different authors, who debate a topic of current interest. (Maximum of 5 thousand words in total, prepared in 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 11, and A4 size sheet).

Privacy Policy

The names and addresses provided in this magazine will be used exclusively for the services provided by this publication and will not be made available for other purposes or to third parties.

Ethics Committee Assessment

Manuscripts with research related to human beings must be accompanied by a copy of the approval of the assessment of a Research Ethics Committee, having met the Resolution No. 510, of April 7, 2016, which lays out the rules applicable to research in Human and Social Sciences.

Conflict of interest

Authors: Authors must explicitly and individually declare any potential financial, direct and/or indirect, conflict of interest as well as non-financial, etc., as well as any conflict of interest with ad hoc proofreaders.

Ad hoc proofreaders: If a conflict of interest is identified by the proofreaders, the Editorial Committee will forward the manuscript to another ad hoc proofreader.

Plagiarism

The Journal will check the submitted articles, through a plagiarism detection tool called CrossCheck, after the peer-review process.

Disclosure

This publication disseminates its articles on Twitter and on the SciELO blog, in perspective, and encourages authors to disseminate the articles on their personal and institutional social networks.

Twitter

Authorship

The journal is limited to publishing articles that have a maximum of four authorship indications below the title. Authorship credit should be based on substantial contributions, such as (a) conception and design, (b) analysis and interpretation, and (c) review and approval of the final version of the article. The inclusion of names of authors whose contribution does not fit the above criteria is not justified.

The authors' contribution must be informed in plain text of up to four lines.

The institutional link must be informed in up to three levels (ex: University, College, Program, Center, School, Department). The indication of the corresponding author must be based on the highest title degree, and all authors must have and inform the ORCID® registration number. Registration is free, available at: https://orcid.org/.

The journal strongly recommends that all authors and co-authors have their curriculum vitae updated on the Lattes Platform for article submission.

Important: no inclusions or exclusions of authors will be accepted after submission.

Transinformação does not publish more than 1 (one) article by the same author in the same year (volume) to avoid endogeny. This procedure aims to increase the number of themes and collaborations from national and international authors.

Evaluation process

The manuscript processing will only begin if they are in accordance with the instructions given to the Authors. Otherwise, they will be returned for compliance with the rules, the inclusion of a letter, or other documents that may be necessary.

Transinformação does not evaluate works that have been sent to other journals, previously presented at events (national and international), and/or translated into other languages ​​in order to preserve the original character of the work.

Authors must indicate three possible proofreaders for the manuscript with their respective e-mails and the institutions to which they are linked. Optionally, they can nominate three proofreaders to whom they would not like the paper sent.

Appreciation by the editorial board

The evaluation is carried out by the Scientific Editors based on originality, relevance, academic quality, and relevance of the manuscript to the area of Information Science, Library Science, Archivology, Museology, and related areas.

If approved at this stage, the manuscripts will be forwarded to ad hoc proofreaders selected by the editors. Each manuscript will be sent to three proofreaders of recognized competence in the subject addressed, and one of them can be chosen by the indication of the authors. In case of disagreement, the original will be sent to a fourth proofreader, and so on.

The journal adopts the blind review system in peer review and is confidential as to the identity of authors and proofreaders. Therefore, the publication requests that authorship information be indicated only on the title page, which will be removed for evaluation.

Documents created in Microsoft Word must have the author identification removed from document properties: From the main menu, click Save As > Tools (or Options on Mac) > Security Options... > Remove Personal Information from File on Save > OK > Save.

Proofreaders’ assessments have three possibilities: a) approval; b) resubmission; c) refusal. In any of these cases, the author will be notified.

The assessments are analyzed by the associate editors, who propose to the Scientific Editor the approval or not of the manuscript. The final decision on the article's opinion (approved or rejected) will rest with the Editor-in-Chief.

Rejected manuscripts, but with the possibility of reformulation, may return as a new work, initiating another evaluation process.

The works that receive suggestions for alterations will be returned to the authors for the necessary corrections, with the assessments issued. They must be returned within a maximum period of 30 (thirty) days, respecting the time zone used by the system (London time, UTC+0).

Approved manuscripts may return to the authors for approval of eventual changes, in the editing and standardization process, according to the style of the Journal.

Data deposit policy

Data are the scientific records that validate research results. Research data varies by knowledge area and covers: written documents, spreadsheets, statistics, lab notebooks, field notebooks, diaries/journals, questionnaires, transcripts, audio files, videos, photographs, methodologies, workflows, partial reports, and other materials prepared and/or collected during the development of the research. Supported by the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), the Brazilian Journal of Nutrition recommends that research data be deposited in Scielo Data after approval of manuscripts and that the  Research Data Deposit Guide be consulted for this purpose.

 

 

Manuscript

 

Manuscript preparation

The Journal provides the following template for the article: [Template]

Pages must have personalized numbering from the cover page (which must be numbered 1). The paper must be of A4 size, with the formatting of upper and lower margins (at least 2.5 cm), left and right (at least 3 cm), prepared in 1.5 line spacing, with Arial 11 font. The file must be saved in a text editor similar to the 2010 version of Word.

It is strongly recommended that the author(s) seek professional linguistic advice (proofreaders and/or certified translators in Portuguese and English) before submitting manuscripts that may contain morphological, syntactic, idiomatic, or stylistic inaccuracies and/or inadequacies.

The text must include the number of words according to the article's category.

The following must be included on the cover page

a) Full title in Portuguese:

should be concise and avoid unnecessary and/or redundant words,

no abbreviations and acronyms or geographic location of the research.

b) Mandatory suggestion of an abbreviated title for the header, which does not exceed forty characters (including spaces), written in Portuguese (or Spanish) and English.

c) Full title in English, compatible with the title in Portuguese.

d) Full name of each author (do not abbreviate first names), and the ORCID® registration number.

e) Information on the authors' academic qualifications (whether they are masters, PhDs, etc.), current institutional affiliation (only one link per author) at three levels (e.g.: University, College, Program, Center, School, Department) without abbreviations or acronyms, in addition to the city, state, and country.

f) Indication of the corresponding author that should be based on the highest degree of qualification, with the full address of the institution to which he is linked.

g) Telephone and e-mail information of all authors.

h) Explicit information on the contribution of each of the authors to the article, in plain text of up to four lines;

i) Information indicating whether the article comes from a Dissertation or Thesis, indicating the title, author, university, and year of publication.

j) Information indicating whether the article has already been submitted to a Preprint platform. If so, inform the name of the repository and the complete reference of the article.

k) Indicate the following items:

Article category;

Total number of illustrations (tables, charts, and figures);

Total number of words (according to manuscript category).

A footnote containing financial support and the number of the process and/or notice may be included, as well as acknowledgments for the collaboration of colleagues and technicians, in a paragraph of no more than three lines.

Note: This section must be the only part of the text with the identification of the authors, and other types of notes will not be accepted (except in translation of quotes).

Abstract

In Portuguese

The abstract must contain a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 250. The use of acronyms, abbreviations, or quotations is not allowed. The abstract must include a brief reference to the investigated issue, sample characteristics, method used for data collection, results, and conclusion.

The keywords or descriptors must be written with the first letter in upper case, separated by a period.

It must have, in the end, 3 to 5 keywords that describe exactly the content of the work. It is recommended that the indicated keywords are not present in the title.

In English

The abstract in English must be compatible with the one in Portuguese, following the same norms, with keywords corresponding to the chosen one.

Text Structure

The text of all work submitted for publication must have a clear and concise organization.

Except for manuscripts presented as Review, Essay, and Communication, the works must follow the formal structure for scientific texts:

Introduction: must contain a review of the updated literature relevant to the topic, adequate to the presentation of the investigation, and that highlights its relevance.

Methods: this section must contain a clear and succinct description of the method used, including the research techniques and adopted procedures, and, if applicable, the statistical treatment. If applicable, inform that the research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee.

Results: whenever possible, the results presented in tables, charts, or figures must, in addition to following the standards of the journal, be prepared in a self-explanatory manner and with statistical analysis.

Discussion: the results discussed in the light of other observations already registered in the literature must be explored, adequately and objectively.

Conclusion: the relevant conclusions must be presented, considering the objectives of the work, and the ways of continuing the study should be indicated. Bibliographic citations will not be accepted in this section.

For qualitative articles, the sections may vary according to the order of your content.

Acknowledgments: Acknowledgments may be recorded in a paragraph not exceeding three lines, addressed to 1) individuals who have effectively contributed to the work, although they do not meet the authorship requirements, [explain the reason, for example: a critical review of the manuscript, collection of data, etc.]. It is mandatory to send the express permission of these persons. 2) Acknowledgments to institutions that supported the research may be included.

Abbreviations and acronyms: should be used in a standardized way, being restricted only to those conventionally used or sanctioned by usage, accompanied by the meaning, in full, when cited for the first time in the text. They should not be used in the title and abstract.

Citations in the text - NBR 10520/2018

All authors, whose works are cited in the text, must be followed by the date of publication and listed in the References section.

Citations/references from undergraduate theses and unpublished texts (classes, among others, etc.) will not be accepted.

Secondary referencing – the citation of a citation, will not be accepted.

If a work under publication, authored by one of the authors of the manuscript and/or from other sources, is cited (i.e., an article in press), it is mandatory to send a copy of the letter of acceptance (article already approved with expected publication date) of the journal that will publish the article. Otherwise, the citation/reference will be deleted.

If unpublished data obtained by other researchers are cited in the manuscript, it will be necessary to include an authorization letter from the authors approving the use of such data.

Citation in foreign languages translated by the authors must be in the footnote with the excerpt in the original language. The indication must include: Our translation.

Citations from the same author in the same year: lower-case letters must be added after the date, without space. Example: (Morin, 2000a, 2000b).

References - NBR-6023/2002

The articles must have, approximately, 30 references, except for review articles which may have around 50. When the cited document has a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) ​​number, this number must be always informed. They must be organized in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author. It is recommended that 80% of the references are from articles published in indexed magazines in the main data basis in the last 5 years.

Specific Cases:

  1. Titles of periodicals must be written in full.
  2. First and last names should have only the initial in upper-case. Ex.: Araújo Junior, R. H.
  3. References with coinciding authors and dates must use the title of the document for ordering and a lower-case letter must come after the date, without space.
  4. References with three authors, all must be included. From four or more on, only the first should be mentioned, adding the expression et al.
  5. Works with only one author should come before works of multiple authorship when the last name is the same.
  6. In cases in which the first author is the same, but the co-authors are different. The alphabetical order of the last names of the co-authors must be the criterion.
  7. Works with the same authors must be ordered by date, being the oldest one the first.
  8. All the addresses with internet links (URL) on the references must be available and direct to the mentioned document. The date the document was accessed must be informed. (see examples of electronic materials).
  9. When the article has a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number, this must be informed using the prefix: https://doi.org/...
  10. The formatting of the references should ease the task of revision and publishing. For such, 1.5 line spacing, Arial font size 11 should be used. Each reference must start as a new paragraph.

The accuracy and adequacy of references of works that have been consulted and mentioned in the text of the article are the responsibility of the author, in the same way, that the content of the works is his exclusive responsibility.

Footnotes:

They must be limited to 5, counting the institutional affiliation grades. They should be short and used sparingly (whenever possible, include information in the body of the text) and should never be references only.

Illustrations

Any type of table, figure, graph, drawing, diagram, flowchart, photograph, map, organization chart, diagram, plan, chart, portrait, etc., which serve to illustrate the research data, are considered illustrations.

Information on the place and year of the study is essential for empirical articles. Figures are not allowed to represent the same data from tables or data already described in the text.

The journal admits up to seven illustrations in total, covering any mentioned nomenclature.

The author is responsible for the quality of the illustrations (above 300 dpi), which must allow reduction without loss of definition and must have a maximum width of 15 cm.

Graphs and drawings must be generated in vector drawing programs (Microsoft Excel, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, etc.), accompanied by their quantitative parameters, in the form of a table and with the name of all the variables.

After acceptance

They will be sent to the corresponding author, and she/he is responsible for transmitting the version to the co-authors (if any).
