About the journal

Basic Information

Revista de História, publication of the Department of History of the Faculty of Philosophy, Language and Literature and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (USP), is one of the oldest journals specialized in the History of Brazil, founded in 1950 by professor Eurípides Simões de Paula.

Revista de História publishes articles in the languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish and French (unpublished or translated originals), reviews, interviews with historians and critical editions of documentary sources. Occasionally, it also publishes texts of related areas (Anthropology, Archeology, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, etc.).

It therefore intends to contribute to the qualified debate in the historiographical scope to a wider public, in addition to serving as a means of disseminating the Brazilian university production.

Since 2017, its publication has been in continuous flow (Ahead of print).

This publication is aligned with Open Science practices and the promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in management and operation.

Instructions to authors

Scope and policy

Revista de História (RH - History Journal) publishes articles, reviews and critical editions of sources and documents, preferably related to the discipline of History, but also to other related disciplines such as Anthropology, Sociology and Archeology. The texts must be original, unpublished and written in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French. It does not accept assignments forwarded simultaneously to other journals in the country or abroad.

RH also publishes articles or translated reviews. In this case, the texts must be accompanied by the original text and the author's authorization for the translation. Reviews can be from books published in Brazil in the previous two years, counted from the date of presentation of the review, or, if published abroad, in the previous four years, counted in the same way.

Each author may have only one article or review in the evaluation process, i.e. between the beginning of the submission and the final publication. A two-year interval will also be safeguarded for the same author to publish another text in RH. If the text is withdrawn after the beginning of the evaluation process, the author should also wait two years before submitting new proposals for contribution.

The contents expressed in the texts published by Revista de História are the sole responsibility of their respective authors.

The Journal does not charge any type of fee for the publication of the texts.

Minimum degree for article submission (authorship and co-authorship): PhD in Progress.

Authors must send the Declaration of Conformity with Open Science.

Peer Review Process

The process of evaluating the texts submitted to Revista de História is as follows:

  • initial screening, by the Editorial Committee, to verify that the text meets the formal specifications of the Journal;
  • The Editorial Committee meets regularly to evaluate the articles and to decide whether or not they are within the editorial profile of Revista de História. Once accepted, the article will follow peer review procedures.
  • submission to two ad hoc referees, appointed by the Editorial Committee (ensures the maintenance of the double blind evaluative system);
  • the two opinions are evaluated by the Editorial Committee, which decides on:
  1. the need, or not, to send a third party referee, if the 2 opinions are conflicting;
  2. the approval of the text for publication without the requirement for reformulations;
  3. the approval of the text for publication, subject to the implementation of the amendments suggested by the referees or by the Board itself;
  4. the rejection of the text for publication, because it does not meet the criteria and requirements of the Journal.

Important

  • In the case of approval conditioned to the implementation of amendments, the Editorial Committee asks the authors to respond point by point to the criticisms made by the referees and clearly highlight the changes made in the new version of the text.
  • In some cases, a new request for reformulation may be made within a maximum of 30 days. The new version is evaluated by the referees and the Editorial Committee, which also decides on the final approval or rejection of the text.
  • If the suggested changes are very substantive, Revista de História may suggest: a) the complete reformulation of the article, ending the present step of the evaluative process; b) the new submission and initiating another phase of analysis of the article.

Periodicity

Continuous Flow (Ahead of Print). Since 2017, the Journal is only published online.

Ethical Principles

The journal follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct and Good Practices of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and the submissions must comply with these guidelines. To learn about the Code, please visit https://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors_1.pdf

Resolution of Conflicts of Interest and Ethical Violations

Publishers shall take the necessary measures to identify and prevent the publication of articles in which research misconduct or ethical violations occur, including plagiarism, quotation manipulation and data forgery/manufacturing, absence of relevant authorizations, and discrimination, among others. The situations and claims that come to the knowledge of editors and referees will be brought to the Editorial Committee, which will take appropriate steps, including referral to higher instances of the University, if necessary.

The Editorial Committee reserves the right to check the articles in the iThenticate program (for detection of plagiarism).

Continuous publication & Ahead of Print
