Instructions to authors

Scope and polic

Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura (Rev. Bras. Frutic.) (ISSN 0100-2945) is a scientific journal with continuous publication (as of 2023) that has been edited by the Brazilian Society of Fruticulture (SociedadeBrasileira de Fruticultura, SBF) since 1978.Ourgoal is to publish Scientific Articles, Scientific Notes, and Literature Reviews (by invited authorsonly) in the fruit-growingfieldfrom original and unpublished research results.

Papers deposited on the SciELO Preprints server can be submitted to Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura, but the journal's Editorial Board will decide on the peer-review process for manuscripts already published as preprints. Once the manuscript is accepted and published by Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura, the preprint version must be modified to include a link to the final version published in the journal.

Submitted works must not have been submitted to another journal, and will only be sent to reviewers if they fully comply with the journal's guidelines and after all authors have signed the Statement of Referral, confirming that “The authors declare that said work has not been published previously or sent for publication in another journal, and agree on the submission and transfer of the publication rights of said article to RBF.”

Papers presenting research that directly or indirectly involves human beings or animals, in their entirety or parts of them, including the handling of information or materials, in all areas of knowledge, must include a statementthat the study was approved by the ethics committee on human beings and/or animal experimentation, citing the name of the Committee, Institution, and approval number, in the Material and Methods section. Articles reporting experimental research will only be accepted for publication if they meet at least one of the following criteria: a) experiment with at least 20 plots; b) experimental design with the number of residual degrees of freedom equal to or greater than 10; at least three replications of the treatment(s). Scientific articles with research results obtained more than eight years before the time of submission will not be accepted for publication. Authors must inform the period and place (including geographic coordinates and altitude; in the Material and Methods section only) in which the study was conducted; and in the case of research involvinganexperiment, the experimental design, treatments, and number of replications, in the Abstract, Resumo(abstract in Portuguese), and Material and Methods sections. Articles subdivided into parts I and II must be submitted together, as they will be sent to the same reviewers.

Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura adopts the CCBY 4.0 license as an open-access attribution standard for articles, which maximizes the dissemination of papers and is therefore adopted internationally by the main open-access journals and publishers. Greater details can be found at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

In compliance with the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, which aim to encourage the identification of plagiarism, bad practices, fraud, and possible violations of ethics, RBF recommends that authors:

a) visit the COPE website, which contains information on research ethics for authors and editors;

b) observe the following criteriaprior to submission:

- papers containing data acquisition or analysis and interpretation of data from other publications must explicitly reference them;

- when writing papersthat contain a critical review of intellectual content of other authors, these must be duly cited;

- all authors must meet the criteria for original authorship of the paper, and none of the researchers involved in the research may be omitted from the list of authors;

- the editors and editorial board will decide on the final approval of the paper.

Only submissions that fully meet the RBF standards will be sent to reviewers (pre-assessment for reviewing); otherwise, they will be returned to the authors for reformulation. Submissions that comply with the journal’s standards will be forwarded to an area editor for the double-blinded peer-review process, which will be done by at least two reviewers in the area of research knowledge from Brazilian and international teaching and/or research institutions with proven scientific production.

After due revisions and possible suggestions, the article will be accepted if it has two favorable reviews, or rejected if two reviews are unfavorable.

Please note that regardless of the reviewers’ opinion, the Editorial Committeeis responsible for the final decision on the approval of the article and retains the right to suggest or request changes deemed necessary in the text, at any stage of analysis.

Once the manuscript is accepted, the authors automatically grant an exclusive license to publish the submitted article in electronic format, including photographs that can be used to promote the article on social media.

Language and areas of publication

g) Measurement units must be expressed in the SI (International System), and the scientific terminology must follow international conventions.

h) Tables and Figures (plots, graphs, maps, images, photographs, drawings):

- Tables and figures must be self-explanatory and have a width of 10 or 20.6 cm, with the text typed using10-pointTimes New Roman font, single paragraph/spacing, and be placedimmediately below the paragraph in which they are cited for the first time.

The indicator letter of each subfigure in a grouped figure must be capitalized and followed by a dot (example: A.), positioned on the upper left side of the figure. Grouped figures must be cited in the text as follows: Figure 1A; Figure1B; Figures 1A and B.

- Tables should not contain vertical lines, and numerical values in the columns should be aligned by the last number.

- Figures should not have borders, and curves (in the case of graphs) can be colored, but always using different caption markers.

- To avoid redundancy, data presented in figures should not be repeated in tables, and vice-versa. When using bitmap files, the minimum resolution should be 300 bpi.

- Figures that include graphs should be created using Microsoft Office Excel 2016 or a newer version. Images generated by programs other than those in the Microsoft Office package must be a minimum resolution of300 dpi; be submitted asJPG, TIFF, or GIF files; and have a width of 10 or 20.6 cm. The title or footnote must be typed in MS Word.

- For figures or tables that present results of regression analysis, inform the coefficient of determination (R2) for each equation, followed by the coefficient of variation (CV).There should be no figures with curves with an R2 less than 0.60; in these cases, include the equation and the respective R2value in the discussion of results. Add the symbols representing the significance of the coefficients (*, **, or ns) in each regression equation presented in a table or figure, placing the mas superscripts between the coefficient values and the variable. Add a footnote using 9-point Times New Roman font in the figure or table informing the probability of significance of the coefficients of the equation and the statistical test adopted,e.g.:**-Significant at p≤0.01 by the F test. Each experimental point plotted in the figure must contain the standard error or standard deviation represented by a vertical bar, as well as a footnote in 9-point Times New Roman fontinforming whether it is the standard error or standard deviation. An exception to this are graphs containing lines of linear or polynomial regression (which must be accompanied by the equations and respective R2 values), or graphs containing letters of mean-comparison tests.
