About the journal

Basic information

Revista Brasileira de Economia (RBE) is Brazil's oldest publication on Economics and the second oldest in Latin America. It was founded by Arizio de Viana, the first editor, and Eugênio Gudin, one of the most influential economists in Brazilian history. RBE was introduced in its first issue by professor Luiz Simões Lopes. His introduction is so up-to-date that it could be part of any issue of the journal today. Professor Lopes described the essence of the scientific line of research and of academic requirements, which serve as RBE's cornerstone until today:

"Revista Brasileira de Economía fills a gap in the publication of papers on economic themes in Brazil. Its major goal is to analyze these themes under scientific, theoretical and applied aspects. It is a non-profit journal. Being totally devoted to promoting research, improvement in higher education and objective and impartial debate, it is free of any doctrinal or political influences... Whenever possible, the major topics will be published with their respective abstracts in foreign languages in order to facilitate a desirable and auspicious intellectual exchange with peers from other countries."

RBE is a generalist journal within the universe of academic publications on Economics. The journal publishes articles in several areas of economic science, and any topic or methodology can be found on its pages provided that they are at the frontier of their field of knowledge and maintain the same rigor and sophistication seen ever since the very first issue.

The journal title is abbreviated as Rev. Bras. Econ., which should be used in the bibliography, footnotes and in bibliographical references and legends.

Instructions to authors

Scope

Currently, the scope of Revista Brasileira de Economia (RBE) includes the following:

1 - Articles: analytical studies, both theoretical and empirical, which present original research into the field of General Economics.

2 - Book reviews: critical analysis of books, edited in Brazil and abroad, which deal with Economics.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Revista Brasileira de Economia (RBE) publishes analytical studies, both theoretical and empirical, which present original research into the field of General Economics. The journal also publishes book reviews, which critically comment on books related to Economics, edited in Brazil and abroad.

All the papers submitted to RBE are analyzed by external reviewers, and the authors will be notified about the acceptance or refusal of their work. The articles are sent to two reviewers; on very rare occasions, the articles are sent to one reviewer only. In such case, the editor will also review the articles. Associate editors help in different fields of Economics, in the choice of some reviewers and, sporadically, in editorial decisions.

Papers submitted to RBE must comply with the following requirements:

  • In the initial submission, the manuscripts must be sent as a pdf file;
  • If accepted, typesetting will only be free of charge for those manuscripts sent in LaTeX format (article category). For manuscripts in doc (Microsoft Word) or rtf, the authors will be charged a fee of R$ 12.00 (twelve reais) per page. No other file format will be accepted.
  • The manuscripts must include abstracts in Portuguese and in English, containing no more than 100 (one hundred) words, keywords, and JEL codes;
  • The title page must include the following authorship information: name of the author(s), affiliation(s), and address for correspondence;
  • References must be formatted according to the Brazilian National Standards Organization, known as Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT, NBR-6023), and listed at the end of the manuscript. When the manuscript is sent in Latex format, the references must be included in a separate bib file so that they can be processed by BibTeX;
  • The manuscripts must be sent only through the online submission system.

For further information, go to the RBE website, section "About the Journal">"Authors Guidelines."
