About the journal

Basic information

The Revista Brasileira de Psicodrama (RBP) was created in 1993 as an official publication vehicle of the Federação Brasileira de Psicodrama (Febrap). In order to accelerate the dissemination of its content, in 2022, RBP adopted continuous publication.

Its scope, in the Human Sciences, falls within the field of psychology, with a focus on sociodynamics, sociometry and sociatry specialties, the latter being composed of the subspecialties: group psychotherapy, sociodrama and psychodrama.

The RBP proposes to:

  • Publish research that is representative of the entire research community, highlighting the growing diversity among researchers, enriching our ability to find solutions to research challenges and beyond;
  • Increase publication of research that studies ethnic-racial relations, intersectional issues, and inequalities faced by vulnerable populations;
  • Take care of related science themes of interest to the psycodramatic community;
  • Prioritize the publication of original articles and restrict to a maximum of two experience reports and two book reviews per issue.

The RBP is committed to open science initiatives and will progressively offer corresponding reviewers and authors to open their identities in accordance with the use of the Open Science Compliance Form, which must be submitted as a supplementary file to the manuscript.

The RBP is committed to equity in its practices aimed at expanding knowledge and improving the human condition. The RBP seeks to address systemic inequalities and biases, promote equal opportunity for authors, and promote an inclusive environment, representing the broad range of people that psychodrama consists of and serves.

Section editors are guided and motivated to: (1) Improve diversity in the choice of reviewers; (2) Encourage in their decisions that authors to adopt more inclusive citation practices; (3) Foster inclusive language.

The editors-in-chief, attentive to increasing diversity and recognizing the barriers that authors, editors, and reviewers belonging to minorities face in publishing, always seek to (1) Avoid discrepancies in the acceptance of articles, focusing on increasing the diversity of authors, reviewers, and editors ; (2) Mitigate both the risk and impact of biases in decision making during the review; (3) Identify alternative processes to mitigate biases; (4) Adopt standards for an inclusive culture.

The RBP demands authors, at the submission step,  the statement of conflicts of interest, that may arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that are not fully apparent and that may influence their judgments about what is published. Authors must declare all forms of financial support; any commercial or financial involvements that may present an appearance of a conflict of interest, whether an agreement has been signed with any research sponsor that prevents you from publishing positive and negative results or that prohibits you from publishing the research without their prior approval. In cases where it does not exist, the authors must declare: ‘” The author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest”. Articles will be evaluated fairly and will not necessarily be rejected when conflicting interests are declared. The editor-in-chief is responsible for evaluating declared conflicts of interest in accordance with Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.

RBP does not charge fees for submitting or processing articles.

The abbreviation of its title is Rev. Bras. Psicodrama, which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references, and bibliographic captions.

Instructions to authors

Editorial policy

The Revista Brasileira de Psicodrama (RBP) is committed to high standards of ethical behavior at all stages of the publication process in accordance with the procedures established by international institutions, such as: Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics, the Directory of Open Access Journals, the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, and the World Association of Medical Editors; Código de Boas Práticas Científicas, of the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (Fapesp); and Guia de Boas Práticas para o Fortalecimento da Ética na Publicação Científica, of Biblioteca Eletrônica Científica Online (SciELO). These procedures apply to the journal's management and editorial practices, with an emphasis on relationships with authors and, mainly, on the evaluation of their manuscripts.

Evaluation process

Manuscripts will be received by the Associated Editors, which will initially verify the similarity of content (plagiarism) through the iThenticate system. For manuscripts with no or low similarity content, a section editor (SE) will be designated. The SE will appoint from two to four external evaluators (ad hoc reviewers) in double-blind mode, ensuring complete anonymity. Manuscripts submitted previously or in parallel to the pre-print platforms will be accepted for evaluation, and the RBP may adopt open peer review with prior consent from the authors and reviewers. For this purpose, authors must submit the Open Science Compliance Form as a supplementary file to the manuscript. Ad hoc reviewers must have no conflict of interest and must be committed to a fair trial and to treat articles confidentially. The conclusions must be objective, pointing out relevant articles that were not cited. After receiving the evaluations, the SE must decide about the manuscript in accordance with the evaluators' recommendations. He or she can accept the manuscript as it was submitted, reject it, or request revisions. The manuscript in need of revision will be sent to the author, who must submit a new version and a letter to the editor, in which each reviewer's recommendation must be commented on. Additional and/or amended paragraphs should be highlighted. If the author does not agree with the evaluator's suggestions, it is necessary to explain the reasons. After verifying adherence to the recommendations of the new version, the SE must give the final decision or, exceptionally, send the article to another round of evaluation if the changes have not been sufficiently addressed. The entire process will be available to the authors at any time. In cases where the authors do not agree with the final decision, it is permissible to appeal the decision by sending an email to the editors-in-chief, who will review the process and may reconsider, if justified.

Information and storage of research data

Authors will be encouraged, whenever applicable, to deposit and share the data, codes and/or methods used in the production of the manuscript, and the responsible author shall inform, during the submission process, the repository in which the deposit was made, enabling the access to reviewers and editors, unless this is not possible for ethical, privacy or confidentiality reasons. To ensure full transparency of the data obtained, the RBP requires authors to declare that, for data not made available in public repositories, this data is available upon request. In that case, authors should inform why these data are not publicly available. Alternatively, authors can make the data available as a supplementary file to the manuscript. If data sharing is not applicable to the article as no datasets were generated or analyzed during the current study, this must be stated. Data includes, but is not limited to raw data, processed data, spreadsheets, statistics, lab notebooks, field notebooks, questionnaires, photographs, methodologies, standards, and protocols. Visit re3data.org to help identify registered data repositories and certificates relevant to the area.

Authorship

All authors must have contributed significantly to the research. The RBP endorses the CRediT taxonomy of contributor roles, and for the “Contributions by authors” section, the following roles will be required: Conceptualization; Methodology; Investigation; Writing – Original Draft; Writing – Reviewing and Editing; Acquisition of funding; Resources; and Supervision. Contributions by anyone who does not meet the authorship criteria must be listed, with the permission of the contributor, in the "Acknowledgments" section (for example, to recognize people who provided technical assistance, data collection, written assistance, or a director department that provided general support). Before submitting the article, all authors must agree on the order in which their names will be listed in the manuscript.

Funding

Authors of accepted articles must include financial support, if any, at the manuscript editing stage. The funding agency must be written in full, followed by the grant number. If the research was not funded by a specific project, the following information should be included: “This research was not supported by any funding agency”.

Retraction

Published articles that contain seriously flawed data, so that their findings and conclusions cannot be trusted, can be retracted in order to correct the scientific record. Additions, corrections and retractions may be requested by the author(s) or initiated by the editors-in-chief after discussion with the corresponding author. Readers who detect important errors in the work of others should contact the corresponding author of that work. All additions, corrections and retracts are subject to the approval of the editors-in-chief, but minor corrections and additions will not be published. The corresponding author must obtain the approval of all co-authors of the article before requesting/submitting additions, corrections and withdrawals or providing evidence that such approval has been requested. Additions, corrections and retracts will contain information about the title of the original article, the list of authors and the reason for the retraction. The originally published article will remain on the web, except in extraordinary circumstances.

Instruction to authors

RBP accepts submissions in English (preferably), Portuguese and Spanish. Manuscripts must be sent via the link https://revbraspsicodrama.org.br/rbp/about/submissions and comply with the journal's norms, based on the publication manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition, 2020.

If authors opt for the double-blind peer review system, it is up to them to ensure that there are no elements capable of identifying them in any part of the article. Authors' data must be informed in a specific field in the system, during the registration process.

Steps to electronic submission

When starting the electronic submission process, the author must register in the system to submit the manuscript, as well as to monitor the editorial process. The editorial process of manuscripts will only start with the completion of sending all the necessary information and with the registration of all authors and their complete data. The insertion or removal of authors after submission of the manuscript will not be allowed. The authors will be notified, through the registered email, about the receipt of the manuscript.

Step 1: Registration of the author(s)

At the beginning of the electronic submission process, the following information must be recorded:

  • All authors must be identified with name, ORCID, email, institutional affiliation (name of institutions in full, with three instances – for example: University/Faculty/Department), city, state, and country. The corresponding author must be identified;
  • Title of the manuscript in Portuguese, English and Spanish;
  • Abstract in Portuguese, English and Spanish;
  • Keywords in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Step 2: Formal submission of the manuscript

The manuscript submitted to the RBP must be original, that is, it must not have been published in another dissemination vehicle (periodical, book, etc.) nor be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere. Except in the following cases:

  • The manuscript was deposited on a pre-print platform, and it is mandatory to inform the URL of the article and whether the opening of identities is authorized to enable open review;
  • The article was presented in scientific activities of the Federação Brasileira de Psicodrama (Febrap) and its federates, or of scientific institutions linked to the areas of mental, educational and organizational health. In the latter case, a footnote with information about where it was presented must be inserted on the first page of the manuscript.

The opinions expressed in the paper, as well as the accuracy and adequacy of the references, are the exclusive responsibility of the authors. At the time of submission, authors must declare any conflicts of interest in carrying out and/or communicating the research, if any.

A copy of the report of the Research Ethics Committee, when applied, must be sent when submitting the manuscript. Without this document, if necessary, the editorial process will not be started.

Types of manuscript

Manuscripts of the following types will be accepted for evaluation, and must be informed at the time of submission:

  • Original article: High-quality reports of original research, based on systematic and thorough investigations. Manuscripts cannot exceed 50 thousand characters with space, including: title, abstract, keywords (in all three languages), attachments and references;
  • Review article: Review with timely and critical analysis of a comprehensive body of research concerning matters of interest to the development of psychodrama. Manuscripts cannot exceed 50 thousand characters with space, including: title, abstract, keywords (in all three languages), attachments and references.
  • Case Report: Manuscript with complete and succinct description of professional experience, of social and scientific relevance and with even partial results. It must accurately address a theme and/or concept to be deepened (not just the description of an experienced situation), in addition to making clear: the description of appropriate methodological principles, description of intervention strategies, theory-practice relationship, considerations on the practice carried out. It should have a maximum of 20,000 characters with spaces, including title, abstract, keywords (in the three languages), attachments and references.
  • Book Review: Critical analysis of books relevant to psychodrama and related areas, national or foreign, regularly published in the publishing market in the last two years. Its objective is to inform the reader about the narrative construction of the book, such as: characteristics of the work, central aspects and possibilities and contributions to the psychodramatic field. No abstract and keywords required: 16,000 characters maximum with spaces.

Manuscript Structure

Whenever possible, manuscripts should have the following subsections, differentiated in the text by different styles.

  • Title: It must be informed in Portuguese, English and Spanish (maximum of 12 words) and must not contain abbreviations;
  • Abstracts in Portuguese, English and Spanish: A paragraph with a maximum of 120 words;
  • Keywords: Up to four descriptors must be included, separated by period, presented in Portuguese, English and Spanish, according to the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). Keywords must be chosen with adequate precision for ranking purposes, allowing the article to be retrieved along with similar works;
  • Body: It must comply with the structure required for each type of work. Use italization for words or expressions that should be emphasized in the text, for example, foreign words, such as self, locus, etc., and words that you want to underline. The citation of the consulted works must be indicated in the text by the author-date system. The author's last name must be written with only the first letter in capital letters, both in the body of the text and in parentheses: “Damásio (1975)” or “(Damásio, 1975)”. All studies cited in the text must be listed in the references section;
  • Attachments: They should be avoided and only included if they contain information considered essential, such as unpublished tests or descriptions of complex equipment or materials;
  • Footnotes: Should be avoided whenever possible. However, if there is no other possibility, they must be indicated by Arabic numerals in the text and presented on the same page to which their numerical references refer;
  • Tables: They must be written in Word (.doc) or Excel. In the case of graphical presentations of tables, columns should preferably be used, avoiding other forms of presentation, such as pie charts, etc.;
  • Figures: They must be of the JPG file type, with 300dpi resolution;
  • References: The Revista Brasileira de Psicodrama seeks to meet current criteria for scientific publication. Thus, it is recommended that the list of references be mostly composed of publications of peer-reviewed scientific articles published in the last five years. The ideal composition of the reference list is 60% in citations of scientific articles and 40% other literature published in the last five years. References must be cited in alphabetical order by the author's last name. The italic typographic resource is used to highlight the title element of the publication and must be uniform in all references in the same document. It is mandatory to search and insert the DOI in each cited reference. For up to seven authors, write the authors' last names and initials separated by commas. If the number of authors is eight or more, cite the names of the first six, insert three dots, and add the last author's name.

Citation rules

The most common types of citations are exemplified below. Omitted cases, see American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition, 2020.

  • Direct or textual citation with less than 40 words: must be included in the text paragraph, in quotation marks. The text reproduced must appear in double quotation marks, with an indication of the author(s), of the page(s) and reference to the consulted work.

Example: De acordo com Bruno (2001), “a citação deve reproduzir o fraseado, a ortografia e a pontuação interna da fonte original, mesmo quando a fonte contém erros” (p. 112).

  • Direct or textual citation with 40 words or more: must appear without quotation marks in a paragraph in block format, with each line indented five spaces from the left margin.

  • For quotations longer than 500 words, reproduction of one or more figures, tables or other illustrations, the type of license adopted by the original publication must be sought and, if applicable, written permission from the copyright holder of the original work for reproduction (in cases where the copyright belongs to the magazine or the congress). Permission must be addressed to the author of the submitted work, who must send a copy of it with the manuscript. The direct quote must be accurate, even if there are errors in the original. If this happens and runs the risk of confusing the reader, the word [sic] must be added, in italics and in square brackets, right after the error. Omission of material from an original source must be indicated by three dots, separated by spaces (“. . .”). Inserting material, such as comments or observations, must be enclosed in square brackets. Emphasis on one or more words must be in italics, followed by [our italics];
  • Citation of citation: must present the expression “cited by” to identify the secondary source that was actually consulted. Whenever possible, avoid this type of quotation, giving preference to the original reading.

Example: Para Matos (1990, citado por Bill, 1998), ou Para Matos (1990), citado por Bill (1998).

  • Citation of statements or interviews: the statements must be presented in italics and their form must follow the guidelines for textual citation;
  • Citation with two authors: must be presented by the last names of the authors linked by & when placed in parentheses. When cited in the text, they must be linked by “and”, followed by the year of publication;
  • Citation with three to five authors: when they appear for the first time in the text, all authors are cited. In the following quotes, the first author's surname is placed followed by the expression “et al.”;
  • Citation with six or more authors: indicate only the first author, followed by the expression “et al.”. In the references, mention up to seven authors, in the order they appear in the publication. If the number of authors is eight or more, cite the name of the first six, insert three points and add the name of the last author;
  • Citation of several authors to the same idea: cite the authors following the alphabetical order of their surnames;
  • Citation of authors with the same last name: the sequence of citations must be in alphabetical order of the authors' first names. If there are still coincidences, the first names are written in full;
  • Citation of informal channels (class, conference, e-mail, etc.): cite personal communications only in the text, providing the initials, the last name of the communicator and a date as accurate as possible;
  • Citation of old and republished works: firstly, the date of the original publication is cited, separated by a slash from the consulted edition date.

  • Citation of works about to be published (in press): the name of the author is cited and the expression “in press” is placed in parentheses;
  • Homepage or website citation: the electronic address must be cited after the information.

Example: Retrieved from http://www.usp.br/sibi

  • Citation of classic works:

Examples: Author as part of the text: Homer exults the people: “Bravos, my children! Watch always thus; let no one give in to sleep. . .” (Iliad, X, 173).Author is not part of the text: “Bravos, my children! Watch always thus; let no one give in to sleep. . .” (Homer, Iliad, X, 173).

  • Citation of textual verses - original edition: “Non iam coniugum . . .” (Virgil, Aeneid, IV, 431-434). Note: In the following quotes, if made on the same page, indicate only the book or corner number and the verse(s), or page numbers, as the case may be;
  • Citation with omission of part of the text: ellipses (separated by spaces) must be used in a clause to indicate omission of material in the original source. Use four dots to indicate omission between two sentences - the first dot indicates the end of the first sentence and the other dots ellipses. Do not use an ellipsis at the beginning or end of quotations.
