Instructions to authors

Author guidelines

To submit a manuscript to Cadernos de Pesquisa, you must register as an author at http://publicacoes.fcc.org.br/index.php/cp/user/register. All authors must be registered, and if the manuscript has two or more authors, then it is necessary to indicate, at the end of the text, the contribution of each one to the article.

Proposals of dossiers on highlighted subjects require prior approval by the editors. If accepted, each text must be submitted by the respective authors. After the evaluation process, approved articles will be published concomitantly within the corresponding section and not as a specific section. All the papers should use a common title, followed by subtitles referring to their particular content. The presentation text, the first in the set, must meet the requirements for a scholarly article.

The Norms for the presentation of manuscripts are available here.

At submission, authors are required to provide: full name; institutional affiliation or last occupation; city, state and country of the institution; academic degree (undergraduate, specialist, Master/Master’s student, PhD/PhD student); contact address; telephone numbers; and email address, as well as ORCID number. The author is also required to indicate how his/her name should appear in the publication and which email address should be presented.

Two files containing the manuscript must be sent: a PDF version and a Word (“.doc” or “.docx”) version. Since Cadernos de Pesquisa adopts the blind peer-review system, no authorship identification can appear in the PDF version, whether in the text’s main body or footnotes or in the file properties.

The author must access the system, click on the link New submission and fill in the necessary information in the five steps below:

Step 1. Start. These fields are mandatory: Submission language; Section; Submission requirements; and Acknowledge the copyright statement. Comments for the editor are optional.

Step 2. Upload submission. In this step, the manuscript in PDF format must be sent first: this version is intended for evaluation, with all tables, graphs, charts and figures in the position where they should be published, and without any information that allows identifying authorship.

Then, the COMPLETE manuscript in ".doc" or ".docx" format must be transferred/sent: this mandatory version must contain all information about authorship and affiliation, in addition to the graphs, charts, tables, and figures in the appropriate positions in the text.

Still at this stage, graphs, charts, tables and figures must also be sent in open and editable files, separated, in Word or Excel, and numbered with Arabic numerals.

Step 3.  Enter metadata. Inclusion of article data such as title, subtitle, abstract, contributors, source (funding agencies, if applicable), rights, languages, keywords, and references cited in the text. Co-authors must also be registered in the system.

Step 4.  Confirmation. In this step the author must click on "Finish submission".

Step 5.  Next steps. In this last step the submission is completed.

To access the detailed step-by-step, click here.

After completing the submission in the system, the author must fill out the Research data availability form, indicating whether the data used in the research will be available. To access the form, click here.

To follow the submission status, the author must access the system → menu → login  and password.

Cadernos de Pesquisa  accepts for consideration texts in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English, in a continuous flow, throughout the year.

Submission to Cadernos de Pesquisa must be exclusive, i.e., texts cannot be submitted to other journals simultaneously.

The manuscripts must be unpublished, i.e., they cannot have been previously published with attribution of DOI (Document Object Identifier), ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) or ISBN (International Standard Book Number).

Every manuscript submitted to Cadernos de Pesquisa is analyzed using anti-plagiarism software before undergoing evaluationThis procedure is meant to identify plagiarism and self-plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as the copy of someone else’s intellectual work, whether in full or in part, without due credit. Self-plagiarism is the reproduction, in full or in part, of one’s own previously published work without proper identification. Self-plagiarism cases have been recurrent when, for example, research reports, theses and/or dissertations and studies presented at scientific events are published literally in article format. In such cases, the journal will accept the manuscript, provided that there is an effort by the author to reformulate the previous version, including a clear mention of the original production.

After the article has been approved, no new authors can be included. At submission, all authors must be indicated.

There will be an interval of at least six month for the publication of articles by the same author.

The ideas and opinions expressed in the published articles are the sole responsibility of their authors, and do not necessarily reflect the journal’s opinion.

During the review process, the journal reserves the right to make small formal changes in the text, while respecting the authors’ opinion and style.

The copyright of the published papers belongs to Cadernos de Pesquisa, which adopts the Creative Commons BY-NC license, of the “Non-Commercial Attribution” type.

A paper can only be published in other forms after twelve months of its edition in this journal. Permission for this must be requested of the Editorial Committee, and the source must be explicitly indicated.

Research Ethics

The ethical procedures established for scientific research must be informed whenever human beings are involved. The anonymity of research participants must be guaranteed, except in cases in which the identification has been allowed. Both the authorization of and the restriction to the identification of participants subjects must be informed in a footnote, in the body of the text. The dissemination of images of people or institutions must follow the same principle.

Conflicts of Interest

The act of the submission implies the absence of any conflict of interest of a financial, commercial, political, academic and personal nature. If there is any potential conflict of interest related to the research or publication of the manuscript, then the authors must inform, in a footnote, the relationship with funding agencies, as well as with commercial and political institutions. Authors must make it clear that the financial or material support received is clearly stated in the submitted manuscript.

Submission preparation checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. All authors are aware of the submission and agree with the rules established by the journal.
  2. The manuscript is original and unpublished.
  3. The manuscript is not being evaluated for publication in another journal.
  4. Both versions of the manuscript, PDF and Word, were prepared according to the instructions.
  5. Any and all information that identifies the authors has been removed from the PDF version.
  6. The manuscript follows the Norms for the presentation of manuscripts.

Peer review process

The received manuscripts go through four stages:

  1. Submission to plagiarism and self-plagiarism control software: the objective is to verify the originality of the text.
  2. Prior evaluation by the Editorial Committee: the Committee judges the adequacy of the texts to the editorial line of the journal; to the publication norms established by it; and the quality of the work, i.e., its publication potential.
  3. Double-blind process: if the texts pass this initial screening, they will be forwarded to be evaluated for merit by specialists in the field.
  4. Final decision: the evaluations issued will be analyzed by the Editorial Committee, which will give a final decision issuing a consolidated evaluation.

Cadernos de Pesquisa adopts the double-blind system for peer review of manuscripts, preserving the author's identity in relation to the reviewer and vice versa. The review process generally involves two reviewers. The Editorial Board may designate one of the editors for the review.

In the consolidated evaluation, issued by the Editorial Committee, the authors will receive a communication stating whether their text has been accepted, rejected or if it needs alterations for publication. In the latter case, the reformulated article is submitted to a new evaluation round. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to refuse articles whose modifications do not satisfy the referred requests.

Submissions in the form of Interviews, Experience Reports, and Reviews are evaluated by the Editorial Committee, which will decide on the relevance of their publication according to the objectives of each section and demands of the journal.

Guidelines for Reviewers
Reviewers must write their opinion in detail, observing the following criteria:

  1. Social relevance and potential contributions of the article to the education field;
  2. Dialogue with the knowledge produced on the theme;
  3. Theoretical and methodological consistency;
  4. Good structuring, clarity, as well as solid and reasoned arguments.

At the end of the review process, reviewers should select one of the options provided by the journal's electronic management system:

  • Accept
  • Mandatory corrections
  • Resubmit for review
  • Submit to another journal
  • Reject
  • View comments

The option “Mandatory corrections” should be used only if the manuscript has potential to be published. Manuscripts that require significant changes should be rejected. The option “Resubmit for review” should be used when the reviewer considers the article should be sent to another specialist. The option “View comments” should only be used when the reviewer is in doubt about their decision.

At the end of each year, Cadernos de Pesquisa publishes a list of all the reviewers who have collaborated with the journal.
