Instructions to authors

Scope and Policy

Cerne is a journal edited by the Federal University of Lavras, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, which quarterly publishes original articles that represent relevant contribution to Forestry Science development (Forest ecology, Forest Management, Silviculture, Technology of Forest Products).

Submitted manuscripts must be written in English, be original, and be in accordance with the journal's standards and not be submitted for publication elsewhere. Its content (data, ideas, opinions and concepts) is the sole responsibility of the author(s). When necessary, it must be attested that the research in question was approved by the Ethics and Biosafety Committee of the institution to which the author responsible for the manuscript submission is linked to.

By submitting the article, the authors agree that the copyright of the same is automatically transferred to the Journal Cerne. Authors can use the article after publication, without the prior permission of Cerne, as long as publication credit is given to the Journal.

In the process of publication, the submitted manuscript is evaluated preliminarily by the executive editor that checks whether it meets the scope of the magazine and follows the guidelines of the journal. In this pre-analysis, the manuscript may not be accepted for publication or be preliminarily accepted and forwarded to the analysis of the scientific editor. The scientific editor reviews the merit of the work, and if it is considered with potential to be published, it is sent to the evaluation of at least two reviewers (referees). Based on the reviewers’ advice, the scientific editor recommends or the manuscript acceptance to the editorial board. Finally, the editorial board decides whether or not the article should be published.

The main objective of this section is guiding the authors to reach a fast and successful submission process. Before submitting your manuscript we invite you to read carefully all rules, format style, and other instructions. The first one is about the themes, which include all Forest Science subjects: Forest Ecology, Forest Management, Silviculture, and Wood Technology. We publish Research Articles and Review Articles. The latter has more flexible rules, but both must be original work. The submitted manuscript must be typed in the Microsoft Word for Windows processor. Warning: If any CERNE’s instruction is not followed by the Authors the manuscript will be denied immediately

2) ATTACHING FILES

The files that must be uploaded to our system are described below:

a) Author's affiliation

Information requested: a) full author’s name; b) working e-mail address; c) scientific institutional or similar affiliation d) ORCID number. The ORCID is a non-profit organization supported by a global community of organizational members, including research organizations, publishers, funders, professional associations, and other stakeholders in the research ecosystem. ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized. (see more: https://orcid.org/). Authorship collaboration: We encourage authors to describe the individual author contributions and credit roles: Project Idea (PI), Funding (F), Database (D), Processing (P), Analysis (A), Writing (W), Review (R), and All (AL). The Authorship should be credit with a set of role combinations for each author name. Eg.: author1: AL; author2: P, W, A; author3: P, D, F.

b) Cover letter

Write a letter to provide additional information on your paper to be reviewed and published. The maximum characters number allowed is 3,000.

c) Original paper

Please, check the Author’s Guideline in the next sections before submitting. This upload file section will receive your original manuscript.

6) EXTRA INFORMATION

The manuscripts are submitted through Cerne's online submission system: http://cerne.ufla.br/site/index.php/CERNE/about/submissions

Review papers may have a more flexible structure, the sections material and methods, results and discussion and conclusions are not mandatory. Only Review papers must have numbered sections.

To guarantee an anonymous peer review process for articles, do not insert author names or acknowledgments in the manuscript file. Please remove any authorship identification from the Word files before submission.

We are publishing yearly only 60 papers. All papers received are analyzed and judged by the Editorial Board. Manuscripts approved in the first stage are sent to scientific referees for evaluation, at least two or three reviewers.

The review phase is essential to guarantee the quality of every published paper. If your manuscript is returned after the reviewer’s suggestions stage, we request you to answer every question pointed. This new document should be attached with the name “answer to reviewers” in our system. The revised version of the manuscript should be prepared using another document with every change properly documented. Please, use red color font or the review option “Track Changes” to mark all changes in the text.

Only for researches involving non-human animals or genetically modified organisms, the authors need to declare the ethical control information. This document should be attached in “other” file section.

CERNE does not charge fees for publication, submission nor the manuscript evaluation. Further information can be obtained by e-mail cerne@dcf.ufla.br or in our website: http://cerne.ufla.br/site

We only accept submissions in English.
