Basic Information

 

Cadernos de Saúde Coletiva, ISSN 1414-462X, is edited every three months by Instituto de Estudos em Saúde Coletiva, of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and it brings studies considered unedited and relevant for the public health field.

The short title of the journal is Cad. Saude Colet., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic citations.

Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to all of its content, on the principle that making scientific research freely available to the public supports greatest global exchange of knowledge.

Instructions to authors

 

Scope and Policy

 

Cadernos Saúde Coletiva (CSC) publish unedited studies considered as being relevant for the Collective Health field.

Conflict of interests: All of the authors of the manuscript must declare situations that may influence the development or the conclusions of the work in an improper manner. These situations can be financial, political, academic or commercial.

Ethical issues: All articles resulting from research involving human beings are conditioned to the fulfillment of the ethical principles from the Helskinki Declaration (1964, restructured in 1975, 1983, 1989, 1996 and 2000), from the World Medical Association.

The article must contain the number of the process and the name of the Ethics Committee to which it was submitted. When necessary, it must inform that the subjects of the research signed the informed consent form. The Editorial Board of CSC might request information on the ethical procedures used in the study, if necessary.

Authorship: All of the authors of the manuscript must meet the authorship criteria from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors: (1) I have contributed substantially with the conception and planning, or analysis and interpretation of data; (2) I have contributed significantly with the elaboration of the draft or the critical review of the content; and (3) I have participated in the approval of the final version of the manuscript.

The contribution of each author must be detailed in the document of responsibility for authorship.

Judgment process: The submitted articles which meet the instructions to collaborators and are in accordance with the editorial policy of the journal will be forwarded for evaluation.

Pre-analysis: The first analysis is conducted by the Associated Editors based on originality, pertinence, academic quality and relevance of the manuscript for public health.

Peer evaluation: the articles selected at the pre-analysis are evaluated by experts on the approached theme.

Anonymity is ensured during the whole judgment process.

The journal adopts free softwares to identify plagiarism.

Note: The journal does not accept narrative or integrative reviews.

* The maximum number of words does not include the abstract, tables and / or figures and references.

** Articles presenting results of clinical trials must be accompanied by the trial registration number. This requirement is in line with the BIREME / PAHO / WHO recommendation on the Register of Clinical Trials to be published based on guidelines from the World Health Organization - WHO, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.icmje.org) and of the ICTPR Workshop.
The entities that register clinical trials according to the ICMJE criteria are:

  • International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN)
  • Nederlands Trial Register (NTR)

Necessary documents:

The title page must contain:

• Title of the work in the original language and in English and, in case the original article is in English, title also in Portuguese (up to 50 words)
• Short title (up to 50 characters)
• Authors' names
• ORCID of the authors
• Authors' titles
• Institutional link between authors
• E-mail of the corresponding author
• Full address of the corresponding author
• Thanks. People or Institutions that have contributed to the work, but who do not meet the criteria for authorship (optional).

Abstract

The abstract should concisely present the central question of the research, the methods used, the results and the answer to the central question of the work (up to 200 words).

For the applicable sections, the abstract should be structured in Background, Objective, Method, Results and Conclusion.

All articles submitted in Portuguese or Spanish must have an abstract in the main language and its translation into English. In the case of an article submitted in English, the abstract must also be presented in Portuguese.

They should also bring a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 keywords, translated into each language (key words, key words), giving preference to the Descriptors for Health Sciences, DeCS (to be obtained on the page http://decs.bvs.br/).

Authorship responsibility document

It is necessary to send, at the time of submission, the authorship responsibility document, signed by each of the authors. Authorship responsibility document (link here).

Main document

The main document cannot contain identification of the authors. It should start with the title of the article, Abstract and keywords, in both languages. Then, the text of the manuscript, divided into sub-items.

Illustrations: The maximum number of illustrations must follow the table informed above. In case of exceptions to the number of tables, tables and / or figures (graphs, maps etc.), these must be justified in writing, attached to the cover page.

Tables: Tables should be presented in the body of the text, in the place where they are to be inserted, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, in the order in which they were cited in the text. It must have a short title, with place and year of data presented, final year of title.

It should be noted that the table must be self-explanatory, thus avoiding abbreviations.
Abbreviations that are necessary, as well as other explanatory notes, must be described in the footnote of the table, even if they have already been mentioned in the text.

Figures: Photographs, drawings, graphs, maps, etc. must be cited as figures. They must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, in the order in which they were cited in the text. Captions must be presented at the end of the figure; the illustrations must be clear enough to allow their reproduction, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

Equations: The equations must be centralized and numbered sequentially, with the numbers in parentheses, aligned to the right.

References:The norm adopted for the elaboration of references is Vancouver.

 

 

Submission of manuscripts

 

The system that the journal uses to submit articles is ScholarOne, which can be accessed at
https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/cadsc-scielo. Authors must register in the journal's system for the submission of manuscripts, which must be sent online. Monitoring the progress of the manuscripts must also be done through the system. The necessary contacts with the author will be made by email.

Cadernos Saúde Coletiva does not charge fees for submission and evaluation of articles.

The approval of the texts implies the immediate and free charge of the copyright of publication in this Magazine, which will have the exclusive right to publish them first hand. The author will continue to own the copyright for later publications.
