Editorial criteria and processes

Editorial processes are described for the following stages: At submission | After submission | After acceptance

At submission

The criteria for publication of scientific papers BABT are that they:

  • report original scientific research (the main results and conclusions must not have been published or submitted elsewhere)
  • are of scientific importance and not too regional.
  • reach a conclusion of interest to an interdisciplinary readership.
  • have an unequivocal definition of the objectives to be achieved at the end of the study in question
  • are up-to-date support literature on the topic defined for study.
  • have definition and appropriate application of methodology(s);
  • make a critical analysis of facts, opinions and procedures relating to the approach(s);
  • make a discussion of the evidence found and its implications.
  • have a valid study premise and the arguments that support it.
  • have clear and coherent structure.
  • are alignment with current referencing and citation standards.
  • follow the format indicated in the submission rules.
  • are well written in English language
  • have a properly written Cover Letter according to the template
  • the journal follows the Open Science guidelines

Important:

Check that all authors are included in the text and with orcid id

After submission

The first stage for a newly submitted Article is that the editorial staff consider whether to send it for peer-review.

The criteria follow the list above.

Fist the manuscript is evaluated by its format, at the submission the authors must use the template properly and follow the instructions presented in the section “Brief guide for submission”. The Cover Letter is mandatory, and it must follow its template. The manuscript that doesn’t follow the criteria’s will be returned to authors for corrections, as many times as necessary.

If the manuscript pass through the check list will be evaluated by one of journals Editors in Chief, depending on which field of knowledge is the manuscript related. The Editors will evaluate it by how well written the manuscript is, by similarities through a specific plagiarism verification software, by regionalism and scientific importance. If they judge that the manuscript attends those criteria, it will be sent to one of our associate editors.

The associate editor will select at least 3 reviewers to evaluate the manuscript, it could be sent to more reviewers if for any reason one of them declines to review. The associated editor needs at least 2 reviews to make a decision. This number of reviews can change based on the quality of the revision. That decision is made by the associated editor. The manuscript can be rejected if we can’t find reviewers interested to see your manuscript.

All Articles published in BABT go through at least one round of review, usually two or three, sometimes more. At each stage, the editor will evaluate the manuscript with editorial colleagues in the light of reviwers’ reports, and send a letter to the author offering one of the following options:

  • The paper is accepted for publication.
  • The manuscript needs a minor revision in principle once the authors have made some revisions in response to the referees’ comments. Under these circumstances, revised papers are not usually sent back to the referees because further technical work has not been required but are accepted for publication once the editors have checked that the referees’ suggestions have been implemented
  • The paper needs a major revision, pending the authors’ response to the referees’ comments. Under these circumstances, further experiments or technical work can be required to address some or all of the referees’ concerns, and revised papers are sent back to some or all of the referees for a second opinion. Revised papers should be accompanied by a point-by-point response to all the comments made by all the referees.
  • The paper is rejected because the referees have raised considerable technical objections and/or the authors’ claim has not been adequately established. Under these circumstances, the editor’s letter will state explicitly whether or not a resubmitted version would be considered. If the editor has invited the authors to resubmit, authors must ensure that all the referees’ technical comments have been satisfactorily addressed (not just some of them), unless specifically advised otherwise by the editor in the letter and must accompany the resubmitted version with a point-by-point response to the referees’ comments. Editors will not send resubmitted papers to the reviewers if it seems that the authors have not made a serious attempt to address all the referees’ criticisms.
  • The paper is rejected with no offer to reconsider a resubmitted version. Under these circumstances, authors are strongly advised not to resubmit a revised version as it will be declined without further review. If the authors feel that they have a strong scientific case for reconsideration (if the referees have missed the point of the paper, for example) they can appeal the decision in writing by email. The main grounds for a successful appeal for reconsideration are if the author can identify a specific technical or other point of interest which had been missed by the referees and editors previously. Appeals written in general or vague terms, or that contain arguments not relevant to the content of the manuscript, are not likely to be successful. Manuscripts cannot be submitted elsewhere while an appeal is being considered.

At any time the author can ask to withdraw the manuscript by email to babt@tecpar.br with the subject [Manuscript ID*] Withdraw the manuscript

If an author needs to be withdrawn or inserted in the paper after the initial submission the journal need that a letter signed by all authors, including the one to be inserted or withdraw, authorizing the changes

After Acceptance

The accepted article will be checked for its final format. If no adjustments are needed by the authors, it will be forwarded by the secretariat to the corresponding author for verification and final approval by all authors. At this stage, changes in the content will not be accepted.

If no corrections are identified by the authors, the corresponding author should return in ma the article to babt@tecpar.br informing that the version forwarded is "in agreement" for publication, copying all the authors. All authors must be aware of and agree with the final version that will be published.

If adjustments are necessary, the article will be forwarded to the corresponding author for adjustments as indicated. At this stage, changes in content will not be accepted.

After the corrections, the corresponding author should return the article to babt@tecpar.br informing that the requested adjustments have been made and that the forwarded version is "In accordance" for publication, copying all the authors. All authors must be aware and in agreement with the final version that will be published.

An erratum applies only to cases where the journal has effectively wrong without the knowledge of the author. The author has a number of instances where errors / mistakes can and should be corrected such as author name, keywords, title, errors in the main text, etc.
