About the journal

Brief Background

Avaliação: Revista da Avaliação da Educação Superior was created in 1996 by a group of researchers, led by professors José Dias Sobrinho and Dilvo Ristoff, as a reaction to the changes in the Institutional Assessment Program (PAIUB), proposed by the Ministry of Education at the time, with the emergence of the National Course Exam (Provão). In a Meeting in April 1996, this group proposed the creation of a magazine that would take on the leading role of institutional evaluation, not just focus on student performance. Just four months later, in July 1996, the first volume of the Avaliação: Revista da Avaliação da Educação Superior was published, with Prof. Dr. José Dias Sobrinho as editor-in-chief and Prof. Dr. Dilvo Ristoff as deputy editor. The magazine began with a quarterly periodicity to keep the debate on the institutional evaluation of higher education on the agenda. In addition to having partner institutions such as the Higher Education Institutional Assessment Network (RAIES) and UNICAMP, in 2006, it signed cooperation with the University of Sorocaba (Uniso), started to have publications in printed and electronic formats and was admitted to the collection SciELO.

As of 2017, the magazine opted to publish only in electronic format, and the partnership with RAIES was ended.

Avaliação: Revista da Avaliação da Educação Superior has been classified in Qualis-Capes in stratum A1 in the Education area since 2010, when the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) started to classify national periodicals.

From 2023 onwards, it will adopt continuous-flow publishing, allowing for more publishing agility.
