The wars of independence, social practices, and the elite code in nineteenth-century America: readings from Bolivar's correspondence

Produced between 1799 and 1830, Simón Bolívar's epistolary allows to tie the writing of letters, the memory and the historiography. This article intends to reach two objectives: 1) to display the narrative epistolar project, to considering the cited bonds; 2) to evaluate the social practices that make possible, simultaneously, the formation of an affective community between officers, the allotment of a elite code and the construction of a memory for the rising South American republics.
