This article discusses the creation of the intelligence communities in the occidental world and analyze how the Chilean information community can be understood according to this pattern. It also focuses on the role of the intelligence communities during the repression processes in the Chilean military dictatorship (1973-1989) and its failure related to fulfilling the typical functions of an intelligence service.
