Seeking to understand the tradition of studies sent for the narrative of the discovery of Brazil by the Brazilians, the present article is based of two works published in the decade of 20 by Afonso of Taunay and it travels the most direct references than they facilitated the development of the thematic and, mainly, of the history conception. The text presents the relevance of Alfredo of Taunay and Capistrano of Abreu to endorse of that writing of the history, the reception that those works really had in the period and elements of the conceptions of the true , method, importance of the documents, finally some motivations of doing historical in the first decades of the century XX.
